I've pretty much figure that you get responded to the say way you respond. One good thing about being on this forum is the conservatives out number the liberals, so we get to pick and choose who we want to debate with. I also have to admit the wheel on my mouse is getting worn out from scrolling past a lot of posts, but when I do find one, it's enjoyable.
I think it reflects what's happening on a wider front. The neo-cons - not true conservatives, but the neo-cons - are in disarray. Their arrogance is still there because they're blinded with hubris but there's not so many of them now. You'll see more and more people of a liberal persuasion on forums simply because they are growing in the majority. You may have to contact the Party and rally some new voices (it will be the same old shit of course) I think.

A damn good question.
I don't mind real conservatives, I share quite a lot in common with them in terms of philosophy (if there's anyone thinking about attacking me on that statement pause for a moment - you're seeing a forum nickname, not a person now just for a few seconds I'm going to reveal something about the person. Play nice please.) in such areas as freedom from unnecessarily intrusive government, in appreciating the worth of the individual and denouncing the treatment of individuals as mere instruments for the use of other, more powerful bodies or individuals, in allowing that individuals should have a maximum of personal freedom of thought and expression and that governments should only have enough power to get their job done, that any reach for excessive power is defeated at the ballot box.
When it comes to economics we can agree to disagree. My best friend is a conservative and we fight like cat and dog over politics but he stil invites me over for a beer (as long as I bring my own, tight bastard ).
So, yes, the Burkean conservatives I have much respect for.
The Neo-Cons - I wouldn't on one if they were on fire.
They are anti-democratic. They believe in the state above the individual. They prefer rule by the elite and the little folks like me (just an ordinary bloke working for a wage) can get out of the way. Many of them are ex-Trotskyists, ex hard left socialists and communists - in other words they're naturally inclined to authoritarianism and if they can get it, totalitarianism - who were sucked in by a brilliant politics lecture at the University of Chicago (Leo Strauss) and moved from the Stupid Left to the Stupid Right in the political spectrum.
Give me the Burkean conservatives any day.
Bugger it. Oh well, thanks anyway. Now I'll have to do that bloody annoying deconstruction thing to work it out. I hate that.
