Dude - that's how they played it! They didn't show what he did to shoot his thumb; the guy claimed 'the gun misfired' without ANY explanation of why he put his hand over the barrell.
So - unlikely a EMP will happen; that's the guy being crazy...yet "THE GUN" caused his injury.
