Hi, all! @jimnyc referred me to this thread along with a warm welcome and both Marine and Navy logos since I'm retired Navy but still a Marine.

I was in the Marine Corps for 10 years then RIF'd and went Navy for another 6 before the Soviets turned into a bunch of wimps and I was RIF'd again. I immediately switched to the Naval Reserve and retired in 1997. My first beer check will arrive next year when I turn 60....along with TriCare which will save my wife and I over $300/month.

My Marine MOS was 7562, Phrog Phlyer:

I HATE frogs. I got a nice dip in the Pacific because one decided it didn't want to cooperate with landing on the Tarawa. I'll give you creds though ... the captain was the last man off the bird.

That looks like the 22 area at Pendleton.

Oh, and welcome aboard. I'm the a$$hole Gunny.

Looks like an old jeep carrier. Seabees got my respect. People that don't know what's going on, don't know what's going on. One of my best friends was a seabee. I'll take them ANY day.

It's MCAS Tustin near El Toro circa early 1980s. Those hangars (there are two) are about a 1000 feet long, 200 feet high and 279 feet wide, if I recall correctly. They were built to house blimps in the 30s.

Sorry about the "dip". I've had a few friends make water landings, but was lucky enough to never experience that pleasure myself.

I did spend a night freezing my ass off on a frozen Korean rice paddy once when caught in a blizzard. Fortunately we always carried cold weather sleeping bags, a jerry can of water and a case of C-rats.

MCAS Tustin is no longer in Tustin. It now resides on CamPen. It"s now between Camp Del Mar and Edson Range. That is unless they moved it again.
