God's Poetry Of Stars And Its Deep Verse

God's poetry of stars, and its deep verse
a play HE need not ever rehearse.
    Heavens filled with stars shining,
poets sweetly writing ,loving and opining.

God's poetry of earth, and its deep verse
healthy love and life needing no nurse.
Majestic rivers, lakes and cool, cool streams
endless wonders and heads filled with dreams.

God's poetry of mankind, and its deep verse
ever forward, no need to reverse
Roads to travel, love and promised paradise
needing no more, such will surely suffice.

God's poetry of earth, a well for our thirst.
God's poetry of earth, in his Love we are first!

    Robert J. Lindley, 08-09-2015

I Cried For My Father's Death

I cried for my father's death then
but never for my own cutting pain
That was not understood back when
I felt my life had nothing to gain.

Life taught me few things are fair
misery and pain follow every gift
Although young with full head of hair
life gave nothing to spirit uplift.

Often in awe of power of the storm
we forget the damage such inflicts
Such folly too often is the norm
sadly man's Nature allows such tricks.

Time onward flows as old wounds it heals
Life does reward those, Love's heart steals!

Shall I Remember Father's Longing Soul

I'm tired of living in this ancient dark hell,
With evil, sins and smells of eating hate.
Shall I journey to much better wastelands afar
An escape before death proves me too late?

I'll race into the forests of pain and gloom,
Seeker of Life's longings and great treasures.
No fear of the unknown hand and waiting doom,
An adventurer chasing deep love and pleasures!

Or take the next fork to lands far and unknown,
A risk worthy of all my hot, flowing blood.
Each path another clue my mind blessedly shown.
Into my searching heart each a river in flood.

This valley holds deep my father's longing soul.
This farm won, he paid in sweet blood its high toll!

Autumn Revisited , A Look Back

Sitting on mossy stone, I watch Autumn fly
    no respite from Winter's friend
Over heading the wild birds soar on by
almost time for this season's end.

This stream , banks covered in green moss
shall very soon flow deeper and cold
This forest will reflect more of this loss
musings I find deeper as I grow old!

What of the sunny Summer days, memory fair?
a short gust in a fast receding storm
Bears scouting for coming Winter's hiding lair
survival searching now is the prime norm.

As Autumn prepares for Winter's hard blast
Slowing moving Time suddenly races so fast!

    Robert J. Lindley, 08-13-2015

Note--Time to dread Winter. This seasonal apprehension
goes back to my childhood. Back then Winters were
brutal on we kids without coats and proper protection
from its blasts.. Yet we survived and later prospered.

    Thoughts On The Rail

I ponder on, this big world, you and I
Does love ride the hard gusting wind
Moving its beauty about in a sunny sky
A journey magnificent but without an end!

I hope, life will forever hold anew
Eternity and the joys of sweet dreams
So often united in the hearts of two
Wading the brooks and mountain streams!

May I know, the joys my father found
The great treasures of his humble life
Spirit flying fast while earthly bound
Above the din of sin and earthly strife!

Thoughts swim in this old but fertile brain.
Memories from a wild past, rise and live again!

    Glowing Cloud On Mountain Top

I met you there, so very full of grace
single rose in your shining raven hair
Radiance beaming from your sweet face
couldn't stop myself, I had to stare!

    Every moment since, forever treasured
nights glowed on, your smile a star
    Everything since that night measured,
love raced in deep like a speeding car!

Now time has given me such great sorrow
Heaven welcomed your spirit on in
Misery my food, heartache my tomorrow
forever gone my lover, my great friend!

Glowing cloud on mountain top now dances
I gamble that climb and take my chances!

    Sunrise, Heaven And Nature Conspire!

At sunrise, when morn breaks into sweet day
Darkness, eases into another far lost realm
Light returns to splendor in its bright way
Sun-ship glowing, celestial giant at the helm!

We that rise up to see this wondrous event
soak in its beauty, holding its glory fast
Our future embraced and our past thus spent
each day's memories and hopes sail at last!

Heaven and Nature conspire to give that gift
hours await to explore life's great dreams
Darkness fled, giving again blessed day shift
full of promises riding magnificent streams!

At sunrise, when morn breaks into its sweet day
Earth gives man more time to love, dance and play!

    Old sonnet, perhaps mid/late 70's.

    My Life For Her All

Her eyes sent softest heart's yearnings
a candle flicker blowing in the wind
My mind filled with awe and great learnings
desired her and her only in the end.

Passion's arrows flew straight and very deep
wishes danced in glee within my weary head
Missing her kept me from good night's sleep
as her sexy visions swirled around my bed.

Dreams fed my ardor into hot fevered lust
she goddess of desire, now so dearly missed
Totally captured, it was her hand or bust
yet our love grew and we had not even kissed.

To be mine! She was destined to thus fall
I gambled everything, my life for her all!

Dare I, Own Up And Confess

Whispering shadows floating in the dark
Sound of laments ringing in their wake
Biting with wicked teeth so like a shark
seeking one lost and lonely soul to take!

Alarm clock wakes me from such a dream
yet bloodstains are at foot of the bed
How silly! All was not as it did seem
nightmares rage inside my old, aching head!

Rising to race quickly to the cold shower
stepped in a slippery, soft and warm mess
Blood on my feet, shows dreams have power
now the police demand I own up and confess!

Waking! My ankles shackled to these bars
Got a feeling, this dream going to leave scars!

    Robert J. Lindley. 08-15-2015

Note. A dark sonnet for a change.
    --------------------------------------------------------------

Beauty Grows Roadside Flowers In May

Why worry about the vast dark terrors unseen
when man himself walks often as a raging beast
The beautiful peacock struts and does so preen
as rising sun shines its glory from the East.

Does not an eagle fly next to the shining Sun
where spirits unseen rest within its fire
Tempt the worst to better enjoy the very best
do not great poets love and so richly inspire.

Far above, stars and heaven exist, to look down
upon man's prideful loves, lives and affairs
So true! Far too many seek an undeserved crown
strut about in arrogance and prideful airs.

If truth be sought, such vanities race away
as sweet beauty grows roadside flowers in May!

Such Dreams, Hold In Place My Grieving Heart

A gentle song in your voice, only I could hear
loving you my choice, losing my greatest fear
Grabbing that light coming from your soft eyes
was touching a rainbow in clear blue skies!

Your beauty, stream growing splashing flowers
my heart beating for our time, midnight hours
Your glowing soul, baby steps into my realm
your kisses given, my heart they overwhelm!

Memories tell me, you are still by my side
to hold these, your death my mind does hide
Some sweet nights, I feel your soft touch
those are the nights, I embrace so damn much!

Such dreams, hold in place my grieving heart.
Prayers begging, begging our love to restart!

I must have placed it there and forgotten.

No Reprieve For The Lost, Battered Soul

Night comes on, like a wolf after sheep
dark and ravenous, at a rapid pace,
    horrific shadow prevents peaceful sleep
grim echoes bounce all over the place.

Midnight hour, signals its coming call
evil whispers sing a death chant,
Candles burning low in the castle hall
gloom rises up to blackness enhance.

No retreat, this battle always rages
stabs and cuts both victims endure,
    Shields fallen, damnation then engages
bruised heart, this life remains impure.

No reprieve for the lost, battered soul
past sins, eat in deep, take their toll

    Robert J. Lindley, 09-03-2015

Note- Could not sleep, this sonnet started
and gnawed at me to finish it.
Past memories cry out to be satisfied...

The Deadest Hope In The World

The deadest hope in the world to hold
To be truly youthful when one is old
To race about with eager quickened pace
Innocent smile upon a softened face,
Willing hands to love yet again,
The envy of many jealous, fellow men
A finer vessel sleek, pure and true
Lady of charm dancing along with you!

    Adorned with steadfast heroic words,
Flying free of earth like the birds,
Wandering into majesty of the clouds
Far away from teeming earthbound crowds
A God sailing alone in the night sky,
Enjoying a blessing, not asking why!

As We Jostle For The Next Joy-Ride

How shall we seek our happiness now
At this closing of the dark hour
When life brings on a dark so foul
no flag waves atop castle's tower.

Only stench of the corruption below
    holds our senses in disbelief
    Multi-colored balloons all for show
all blindness, we feel no grief.

    Fields stretched in desolation galore
barren yet seen with foolish pride
Seas raging with sad, polluted shores
as we jostle for the next joy-ride!

Shall we gather to sing our demise
Or seek counsel from the very wise?

    R.J. Lindley

NEW NOTE--I have absolutely no memory of what inspired this poem.
Could have been a whiskey night and bad troubles long since forgotten.
I am now quite sure if that is the case , I do not want to regain that memory.-Tyr

Shadow Mist, Fear Of Past Sins

Ghostly trails, shadows whirl in and out.
Trees line sad dream in very deep rows.
Alas! Danger lurks ahead, no time to scout,
Daybreak may hold red meat for the crows.

Where you see ahead a bend holds new fear.
Echoes call out, watch- remember the past.
You shudder deeply, eye finds a lost tear,
Pray for help because evil moves in so fast!

Sun sets and the darkness looms thick ahead.
Falling rays wrapping the shadows in haze.
Mind screams out, go away-you are now dead,
running along, a fool in a mind lost daze!

Shadowy mist, crowding you into its sphere.
You choke on cowardice, brought by deep fear!

Note- A Dark Sonnet on a blind and lost soul
    that was gifted light...

He that was once lost, found a key.
    He that once hated all-
    Found he also hated me....
Answer came, when faith finally made a call.

Ask Not Why You Reap Such Ills

Like a tight jar your fate is sealed
Life strains under its heavy goals.
After death, truth's light is revealed
Lying lips are kissed by burning coals.

Loud roars cry out life is so unfair
Beg pay for merely knowing your names.
You play, wandering around with no care
Ignoring follies and your great shames.

You walk along a dark, foreboding path
With cold fingers jammed in your ears.
Cry about hard times and imagined wrath
Run from shadows and your greatest fears.

Blue dark day may wait for your descent.
You reap ill because you did not repent!
