    Default Running Rivers, Building Cabins

You know, my normal recreational stuff!

Last Thursday, my son didn't exactly follow me and 'rocked out' with his boat; meaning he hit bottom and he chopped power and was promptly stuck. He did the right thing by killing the engine so that he didn't throw a bunch of gravel through his jet unit and damage it. Where he hit was about 30' downstream and it was about 2" deep.

He's still learning how to read the water, and this incident was a great learning opportunity for him. If he'd been 6 feet further to his right, he'd have been just fine.

Anyway, since this happened at the cabin instead of miles away somewhere else, we simply unloaded the boat and when it was empty it floated off the bottom and no harm was done. He had about 2,000 pounds in there at the time.

    The fleet of ATVs grows.

The little grey one there I've had around the house for a while now, but it'll get more use up there. I put new tires on it and rebuilt the carb, and she's good to go.

And finally, the solar panels I installed at the cabin. We now have 2 battery banks that are completely isolated from each other, fed by their own solar panel. I can select which bank I want to run the cabin from by a flip of a switch.

Now the only time I need to run the generator is when we're using power tools. I thought about installing an inverter, but I don't see what the benefit would really be - and those are very hard on batteries.

I'll take up some Panduit to enclose the wiring and protect it when I go up tomorrow. The panels look like windows from the river, so it doesn't look bad IMO.

I love it Rick. You are for-sure living the life.
“… the greatest detractor from high performance is fear: fear that you are not prepared, fear that you are in over your head, fear that you are not worthy, and ultimately, fear of failure. If you can eliminate that fear—not through arrogance or just wishing difficulties away, but through hard work and preparation—you will put yourself in an incredibly powerful position to take on the challenges you face" - Pete Carroll.
