    The Final Vow

When finally the long shadow crosses my path
the wind carries away the new morn's dew
I shall then abandon my weary and dark wrath
against my tortured, imagined image of you .

Shall you notice this my change on that fateful day
A bare, broken heart at last thus mended
The end in which my silence holds its greatest sway
the black results of the promised love you rescinded.

My love, hear my last destined words to you
this cry to heal your bitter heart
This the last honorable, loving thing I can do
before forever our shattered souls part.

As these beautiful trees witness this my final vow
You may thus see, the true depth of my love now

    Guile And Merciless Lies

I spared her my guile, my merciful lies
she was just fallen from Heavenly skies
Stone-cold heart in me, I abused so well
was destroyed under her angelic spell.

No reprieve could my lone spirit seek
for now love was strong, my darkness weak
As each new dawn raced to bring its sweet joy
returned I, to innocence when a boy.

Yet savage darkness in me did not leave
it would far too soon give me cause to grieve
I fought that blackest of all mankind's sins
that deed punished with Hell that never ends.

On blackest of nights, our first loving year
she saw my evil wrath, felt her last fear
I slashed and cut until all life had bled
looked I into, bluest of eyes now dead.

Again, my heart felt eternal torment
facing this misery of wrath hell sent
She that held my heart in its finest hour
destroyed under my cruel dark power.

Another dawn, there stood my angel anew
she was just fallen from Heavenly skies
Had Fate now turned, changing winds blew
torture, for my guile and merciless lies.

(OLD) NOTE- Darkness this week, my good friend took her own life, far away in another state..
I once held her close but life saw us part..
She went to find her dreams and I stay here to play my sad part.

    NEW NOTE-
Life full of mystery and living long, brings memories of a very old pain.
Living these extra years but what does one finally gain?
Perhaps peace and a time to understand,
that man is fallen, and to often walks about blindly, in his own dark land..
A dark poem from long ago.
Shared now because we all have past pains that need to see the light of day..
Always I wonder, could I have saved her if I had not been so selfish, wild and crazy back then..

    Nature's Gift

Windy night's storm passed, now came soothing breeze
embraced, fallen flowers sprang up with ease.
Where night's fury had vent awesome wrath
dawn's joyous return gave another path.

As clouds parted and glowing sun beamed down
busy was blessed day in this, my town.
Streets were flooded with shopping underway
packed crowds very eager to find and pay.

Breeze picked up, sending cool, brief shower
Nature yet again showed healing power.
Crops soaked in gift of sweet, refreshing rain
so soon, washed away dark storm's enraged pain.

Night's storm flown away, now came soothing breeze
flying everywhere were the birds and bees.

    War Demanded

If only man were like a stout oak tree
Standing proud and tall for the world to see
Dreaming of a peaceful culture that truly will last
Ever seeking a happy future while sailing at full mast

Reality presents a very different and forceful demand
Greed calls for taking others blood , treasure and land
No small trick starting another evil and bloody war
With death, misery and cuts leaving a lasting scar

Any excuse will do when lying is so demanded
Up is down when right becomes so underhanded
Why worry at all about the lives destroyed or taken
Call for power demands that truth and honor be forsaken

Every war starts with Truth being pushed aside
Far too cumbersome and heavy for death's dark ride
Lies fired from cannons take the first great measure
After that the vultures descend to take the treasure

Her Smile, The Quest To Once Again Embrace

The great depth of sun-gleamed dancing seas painted in
    blue,
Tidal surges that swell in gracing full-moon's hue:
Where all Nature bows its strong, powerful head
    too!

Seeking ever more blessed glories across this wide
    world,
Oft hidden as is the jewel of Nature's finest pearl:
All for the truest love of her, my shimmering dream
    girl.

Within great journey from dark depths of lost love's
    throes,
Long aching years, ebbing pain in my mind grows:
Searching heaven and earth hit with unyielding
    blows.

Time and Fate may bring sought- this dream in soft
    treasure,
Of my quest , epic suffering granted in heavy measures:
Burned by day and night's furies awaited only to find her
    pleasures.

Place Beyond The Horizon, Dwelling In Sunset's Red

Place beyond the horizon, dwelling in sunset's red
all is right - no compromising, silk sheets on every bed
Cool streams lead to good, world exists with no stains
love wins just as it should, nights hold no dark pains

Beyond the horizon, hell's great fury can never invade
new morn's sweet rising, bright life hope has made
Days spent in wonder, dancing to promises of more
ships sailing seas of splendor, from shore to shore

Paradise in the seeing, Nature's well hidden palace
glory in the being, free of man's hatred and malice
Earth's greatest pleasure, love-filled beyond measure
time spent in leisure, where true love is the treasure

Beyond red skyline's glow, loom castles of eternity
wrapped in sincere love's, great hope and serenity

    A Fight or A Fantasy ?

Ages ago on a mountain ledge I slew my foe
A warrior that utterly refused to yield
As blood lay rich upon the cold packed snow
I took his valiant life , his sword and his shield

A memory from a cold and distant past
A dream from a memory darkened by sleepless nights
A chill sent so very hard and fast
A flash of many thrilling and honorable fights

Fleeting whispers sent to cast off doubt
Of standards now demanded to be cast aside
Rage , furiously rage against death's final shout
Dead heroes welcoming no tales of glory and pride

Hades embraces fallen soldiers that failed the test
Of virtue, resolve and duty soundly done
Pride, courage , glory and all the rest
Pale in comparison to a justice so honorably won.

Awaken from a sweat soaked dream
I wondered had I saw another man's fate
So real, so very real it did seem
To be the closing of my earthly gate...

Get Off That Knee And Take A Stand

    So who are you
    To be so smug
    You have it all
    But still a thug

    Taking a Knee
    Refusing to stand
    But that's your right
    In this our land

    You act abused
    The Kool-aid drunk
    But what a joke
    You’re just a punk

    Here you’re free
    To be that bum
    But you blind yourself
    To be that dumb

    For men have died
    They paid the price
    For you to live
    Their sacrifice

    Color doesn’t matter
    They fought for right
    Side by side
    Both Black and White

    Now, get off that knee
    And take a stand
    You salute our flag
    In this free land

    You stand and sing
    A voice that's proud
    You belt it out
    And make it loud

    Because that banner
    It still waves
O’er the land of the free
    The home of the brave

    Author - C.R. Rigali
"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen."

That Darkness Leading Into Silent Tombs

At night, hallway between our distant bedrooms
that darkness leading into silent tombs,
I know the pain of your quiet despair,
where foul shadows float though the air.

Memories of that day, those dastardly deeds
bequeath a crop of ever darker seeds,
I feel the anger and loss deep in your cave
that agonizing hurt, loss of the love you gave.

Yet you see not the greater wrong done me
tight chains that kept me from being free,
and how your blindness took away my sight
as we both now - embrace misery day and night.

If only we could wake from these never ending dreams
Find dear mercy and light, that both our heart redeems

What Was Once So Dear And Finally Again Found

To have so sadly lost and yet now again tis found
more to life than planting seed in fertile ground
Living is much more than what we see, touch and hear
it is sublime happiness in every joyful tear
Holding sweet the heart's true love long and tight
knowing hope and love can make it alright
Basking in the sun and Nature's deep glory beheld
when our souls with nature's blessings meld
Asking for that promise of each radiant new dawn
seeing bright flowers gracing our front lawn
Dancing into abundant light of heaven and earth
begging, begging for more - with all our worth

What was once so dear and finally again found
Love and kisses, truly make this old world go round

We Curse This Ancient World In Our Great Pain

As we walk blindly into the dark night,
lit candles thrown away, denying sight
We climb up, onto great high cliffs to fall
heeding nothing not even warning call

We curse this ancient world in our great pain
we eat misery and embrace our pain
Yet in dark despair, we hope and we pray
each sad night, morn we wake to a new day!

In darkness, our souls find so little rest
we wonder forth but its only a test
To ever changing earth we are thus bound
    living in nothing, parading around

What of Fate and our love's greatest treasures
we seek solace in our simple pleasures
Begging only for return of clear morn
OUR ONLY HOPE, AGAIN TO BE REBORN

Yet coming dawns bring anew, hope and prayers
to divine guidance that loves, truly cares
In our sad rooms, we often beg to dance
YET WE OFTEN FIND, LIFE IS BUT MERE CHANCE

    A Heart's Deep Song

Grant me for sweet remembrance sake
Some golden gift that I may take
    With me into that region
Awaiting me when love is gone,
The jewel that held thy fragrant hair
Against the winds of March; a share
    Of lavender thy fringed lawn
    Nestled among until dawn;
A broken bridge, a tattered string
    Of thy deep lute's dismembering;
    The many-beaded beryl zone
    That thy still orisons hath known;
Or, that my heart may be at ease,
    Tell me the bliss thy vision sees;
Sing me the secret of thy faith
That I may find thee beyond death.

    R.J. Lindley,
    April 17th, 1972

    Note-
In youth I sought the winds that sing aloud
bringing in music of each new day
I was bold, hungry and quite proud
yet life's selfish yearnings got in my way

Looking back, great life was there to be had
if only my anger had not held sway
I was so wild, crazy and yes, a bit bad
for which truth and justice made me pay

Ah, but who hasn't regret about youthful misdeeds
about fine treasures so stupidly lost
I that happily sowed far too many dark seeds
sadly now reap, the inevitable high cost

When youth in folly thinks not but then leaps
should it shock, to find, Fate plays for keeps

Started as just a short note--turned into an unfinished poem.
My muse taunts me today... at her sweet pleasure..

Never Greater Shall Ever Come Again

A golden apple from a golden tree
that is what sweetness of youth was to me
Never happier have I ever been
never greater shall ever come again

Each new dawn greater mysteries unfold
to we too reckless, too wild and too bold
Where bright sunshine gave cause to dance and play
we in merriment lost ourselves each day

Nights brought promises of love, often more
crazy in romance we sought just to score
Now aged wisdom, such folly we see
carelessly, we wasted fruit from youth's tree

Never happier have I ever been
never greater shall ever come again

Poetry, More Than Breath Of Pretty Words

I will not sell my soul for vanity
nor loud applause that rings in so shallow
Although I prefer quiet and smooth sea
my anger, sometimes must out loud bellow

I will not dare cross such a tragic line
for life is honor, principles held tight
Not only sweet desserts on which to dine
but also seeing clear in dark of night

I would rather eat bread of humble pie
than many dark rotted fruits of false praise
For nothing gained in believing a lie
even should such be the accepted craze

Poetry, more than breath of pretty words
its life, singing of true angelic birds

Dreams Of Her On Lonely Nights

My thoughts carried as in arrows swift flight
    Each bad day, loneliness and misery;
More to come- dying sun gives wicked night,
long and sadder became desperate pleas.

Where once cherished fires burned brilliant glow,
    Now treads shadow host of my vanities;
Lost heart stood aloof, cold as coldest snow
    casting forth red-pain and profanities.

Not realized, plans of joy and future life
    Nor again- moments of her sweet touch;
Yet held deepest, poems of our love, my wife
This world, I would give, to have again such.

In darkness, my soul in lost battle fights,
Images of her, in dreams on lonely nights.

    R.J. Lindley,
    April 21st, 1976

Note--Old sonnet, real bad time in my young life ..
So often we are made strong-- by the depth of the fires that burned us so severely.......
