    On final approach

    Pt. Hope International Airport!

These are whale ribs sticking up at the airport. Back in the day, they'd use these to support their houses made from grass sod. I'd estimate the length of those about 12' above ground - pretty good sized whale.

Our crew of guys as we walked through town heading for the comm site.

If anyone is wondering where the ALOHA plate for Hawaii is, wonder no more! Pretty funny to find it here, of all places.

We hired a guy to come move our new generator into place. That conex is a perfect generator shed.

The operator was impressive... he didn't bounce or jerk the load around, even though the gravel is extremely loose and deep. The whole town is gravel... no grass or bushes or trees. Just a giant gravel bar.

I looked up Pt. Hope on google maps. It's waaaay on out there by itself. Sort of a finger of Alaska.

    Thanks for the pictures!

Our wheels for the trip. Pretty nice Razor fitted with an enclosed cab with a heater.

This is the hotel. I tried staying here a couple nights in a row without success - the first night, I rented a room and when I opened the door to sleep for a couple hours, there was a guy already in there sleeping, so I shut the door quietly and crashed in the comm building. The same thing happened the next night in a different room.

I paid the money, he handed me the key to the room, but apparently checking the records to see if that room was indeed vacant was too much of a hassle.

My buddy Joe as we were walking to lunch one day :

Had to laugh at this - I think it's a fuselage from a 727 that must have crashed or something. This guy hauled it to his house and made an addition! I'd have loved to seen the interior.

And a shot from the airplane in Nome on our way back to Anchorage... I haven't had a job here yet, but that'll happen soon I expect. There's a ton of history here from the Gold Rush and of course, those gold mining operations continue to this day.

I wonder what his wife thought when he said he wanted a new bedroom, made out of a 727, lol.

Considering the cost of getting building materials out there, she probably thought it was a great idea!
