    Default Passing Away

Explain. I've watched for years as people post RIP threads for people they don't know. Some celebrity, usually. Why? They're dead. So who is all the crying for? The living. Why do we do that? No, why do we spend an inordinate amount of time over it?

Lot's of celebrities have died this year. Sucks most of them are close to my age. Would y'all get together and have a party when I kick it? Country music, thanks. I promise I won't know a thing.

And I do not consider it a sign of respect to pay homage to someone you wouldn't know if they fell out of the sky.

I never understood that. There's probably a couple hundred vehicles running around Wasilla with a big sticker on the back window with something like "In loving memory of Joe Blow 1954 - 2007".

Are they dedicating the car to that deceased person? The window art? The window itself?

What is it that I should do with that info - honk politely and wave while gesturing to his rear window while I pass him?

You're talking to Gunny here... I'd go with asking about something more substantial like Lincoln's death.

Remember, when Gunny laughs, puffs of dust come out of his mouth.

Was it his girlfriend that said that a while back? Funny shit!

I have regretted seeing some performers go young, but never for the
life of me have considered making a memorial for them...decal on the
back glass of the truck, for example.

It's not like they lived with me or anything.

Elvis? Never cared for him except some of his ballads.

Lennon? Never cared for his politics. Shame he was shot, though.
I have lost my mind. If found, please give it a snack and return it?

I remember both!! Elvis very much, as Mom thought it was the end of the world. And Lennon, I'll never forget that one either, Mom was in the hospital when he died.

How do y'all feel about those roadside crosses installed where a loved one died in an accident?

So commonplace I don't even give them a second thought.

Now I did see a family putting one in place and I knew the story of how the kid died. That was tougher somehow.

I think that's a great idea. It serves as a reminder of the very real danger of bad driving.

I made one of those myself and installed it alongside Schrock Road here in Wasilla 20 years ago when my girlfriend rolled her Firebird and died. That was just something I wanted to do for myself, though... not anything for anyone else's benefit. It was just grieving and it helped me, somehow.

I completely agree. Why do people eulogize and cry about celebrities that they've never met? I hope they are doing at least as much for their friends and family, but I suspect they don't. It is ironic, but the chances are that the friends and family were much better people than the celebrities. (No offense to any celebrities on the board )
