Wading In Coolest Streams Of Subconscious Delights

Often I wish my life had been a lost feather,
blowing up high within a sea swept moaning gale.
Lost but quite content in such furious weather
spirit justly weighted upon a cosmic scale.
Often this young heart seeks even greater release
wading in coolest streams of subconscious delights.
Seeking love and joy greater than a golden fleece
rapture, tender arms of my lover winter nights.

I have labored on writing this tribute poem for about 9 weeks now. Leaving it, coming back, making changes.
Always trying to improve it, as nothing seemed good enough.
Then I finally saw the light, my father tho' extremely intelligent was still a simple man.
One that believed good triumphs over evil, that people are only human and thus they should not be judged against a perfection yardstick.
For weeks I sought perfection to honor him, one I so dearly love.
Then he seemed to say to me this morn-- " son, when love is true it is already perfection, regardless of how its presented."
With that in mind, I finished this poem today. And hope you may enjoy it and think beautiful and loving thoughts/memories of your
own father, be he now living or passed on as is mine..-Tyr

    Just An Old Man

Just an old man I came to know
his mind still busy, feet were slow.
Tired feet lounged in old, worn shoes
he had lived, lived and paid his dues!

An old man, one I always loved
one who taught me to fight when shoved.
Showed me to be kind when one could
how to work hard and saw firewood!

An old man, long ago I knew
taught me to say, yes sir on cue.
Suffered to give more than he had
to raise good sons, not to be bad!

An old man, one God took away
taught me true love and how to pray.
Gave his kind heart and gave his all
to teach me to stand proud and tall!

An old man, that never forgot
to aid me, were I on the spot
Old man that gave, not being asked
in that bright light, this soul once basked!

Just an old man, so brave and true
wore the old, to buy me the new.
An old man, one I so cherish
I pray to meet, when I perish!

An old man, one I hope to see
that good son, he raised me to be.
Just an old man, one that loved me
pray I, to one day be as he!

As I Remember You Mother, My Dearest Friend
(A Tribute To My Beloved Mother)

    Watching shadows melting away,
Sun racing into a dark void
Do I now dare this to thus say
    Death is why, darkness I now avoid;
    As red-sun's, waning rays fall
Soul and sad heart both grieve
Tho' sweet dawn's glory I recall
I know dark, has evil up its sleeve
As I sit frozen in my great fear:
My world screams pains so deep
That sound assaults my inner ear
And again from sorrows, I weep.
Hours fly by, moon brights its sky
Some relief in my veins now flow
Your love's touch felt, the reason why
    My wounded spirit this now knows;
    Tomorrow's sun will shine bright
Blue seas will wave and loud splash:
Through pain and dread of night
Hope is greater than your loss I rehash,
I feel the rays before they fall
And great warmth before it arrives
Once I had your love and stood tall
    As paradise was in both our lives;
Thus courage's true relief, sets again
Dark world's start holds less fear
As I remember you mother, my dearest friend.

Two Old Red Tractors, Both Are Broken Down

Two old red tractors, both are broken down
on a small dusty farm, outskirts of town.
Dawn comes early, no time to sleep in bed
rooster crows call out, work, work, work instead!

Dad rose early, I hear a tractor start
shows me his ethics, I must take to heart.
I rise to eat, coffee, bacon and eggs
we work hard to live, here nobody begs!

This farm, it damn sure does not run itself
nor just give us food, on the pantry shelf.
Meeting morn's brisk air, I wake even more
I start work, seems a never ending chore!

Sun setting, more work still needs to be done
suppertime, tomorrow we have more fun!

Sonnet, ( Farm work, seems to never all get done)

When Long Shadows Leave Place Of Their Hidden Abode

When long shadows leave place of their hidden abode
of courageous hearts and great brave tales are told
for within man's savagery lurks souls worth saving
    despite enormity of man's misbehaving!
Where heart dearest of desires and world's darkness meets
Are oft found fields of deep love or ashen defeats!

When shadows are victorious and gaily leave
epic the sorrows of those left to sadly grieve
as neither lights from bright sun nor glittering stars
can absolve evilest deeds or such bitter scars
For deep within broken hearts, life shattering dreams
Oft remains the dark hate that fails to souls redeem!

Where shadows in dancing groups and glory retreat
rests dark scavengers to bow at victories feet
as clamorous dens echoes their ravenous feasts
innocent children go to sleep fearing such beasts
Can it be that all mankind has such beasts within
Born inward hidden as punishment for its sins!

Note- Woke today my muse raced into the house. With vicious voice, asked me this- are you a man or a mouse?
I coolly replied, How dare you ask such foolish nonsense of me
I the old poet ancient but still dreaming and master of my own house..
Then she smiled and commanded, write today and make deep and dark
add in horror and maybe buckets of blood and guts
again show me the soul, that first sent poetry's true spark
for too oft lately I've thought you off and a bit nuts
I coolly replied, have a seat, watch this old poets pen ink now fly
measure the results against the contempt you too oft keep
notice my calm and the fact I did not ask you- the why
as I birth these dark verses and do not dare bore you to sleep!

Reading today from a couple of my old journals and found this. I was 20 years old when I wrote this and even now can still feel the loss of my friend.
Death of delivers its blows given unto youth, even into old age...--Tyr

As Truth Shelters Its Abundance Buried Within Its Fruits

As deep well fires burn into a cavern hidden deep
fleeing embers fly unto the one and beseeching skies
for darkness walks here, as if a fleet footed whisper
within its power is the seeds of awe in man's fallen heart

Hold the Light, for its grasp reunites soul with honor.
As Truth shelters its abundance, buried within its fruits.

Day and night spin to weaken this murdering dread
each a sharpened sword to slash where evil lays in wait
and in that cycle of mans joy and his greatest of grief
mysteries abound, the poisons of its sorcery, its gall.

Hold the Light, for its grasp reunites soul with honor.
As Truth shelters its abundance, buried within its fruits.

He that seeks solitude may thus find greater knowledge
for within silence's eternal dance, Love waits with key
shall man's fallen heart, also torment his broken soul
if Fate decides, even that too, will yield to the Light.

Hold the Light, for its grasp reunites soul with honor.
As Truth shelters its abundance, buried within its fruits.

    R.J. Lindley,
1974 ( To my friend, William)

    Old Note-
You my dear friend have passed on. Your friendship can never leave this aching heart. A brother you were to me since our first fight ( our friendship born thus). A friend, I found in my darkest hour.
I too, shall one day see the door that you have passed through and may it be in friendship, your glad hand and warm smile that greets me on the other side.

New Note- What assails the weaken state of man tis but the emptiness his soul finds in the dark. But crack a pane, loosen a stone and weakness becomes strength to see past the veil and walk upright in the newly lit path...
