Truth Found, Recovery Of A Broken Soul

    1.
In nightmarish dreams he found such great dread
Of lost hope, life's decay, eyes of the dead.
Day's clear lights his damaged mind repaired
Deep traps from which his heart had been ensnared.
In sunshine he felt life's returning glows
Erase night pains and darkest of its blows.
As sun waned and shadows of dark arrived
He felt again, joy vanquished, love deprived.

    2.
What of this devilish, persistent foe
With such powers, its broken claws regrow.
Hope alone, can evil be defeated
Or must Fate decree, his life be cheated.
In sun's bright shining hours his heart grew bold
Oft from tales of warriors of old.
On such bright days his thoughts returned to her
Destroyed dark powers that made life a blur.

    3.
Where deepest love passions reign, hope survives
For in man's inner soul, true love revives.
Times and cherished moments serve to remind
With love's great truth, one can never go blind.
Standing firm with knowledge of man's powers
One can face even darkest of dark-hours.
Faith, love and hope are the right paths to take
All the rest are results of blind mistakes.

    4.
Armed with newfound wisdom and clearer path
He had weapons to overcome Fate's wrath.
Every night before falling fast asleep
Head bowed, he recited prayers true and deep.
As new dawn's brighter lights came, his heart knew
Torments were over, as joys in life grew.
Found true, cursed Fate can be defeated
If one but lives, each day truth is greeted.

I WROTE THE TITLE AND FIRST EIGHT VERSES OF THIS POEM LATE LAST NIGHT, GOT TIRED AND DECIDED TO GO TO BED, FINISH IT THIS MORN.
I ROSE EARLY, GOT OUR SON DRESSED, FED AND OFF TO SCHOOL.
Logged in, posted in several threads in Creative writing forum but had forgot about the poem title and my desire to finish the new poem.
Then my darling wife asked me--why were you reciting poetry in your sleep?
I in shock, ask her was it good, new or could you tell? She replied it was good but you kept saying, ""broken soul"" often !!

Only then did I remember and even started to remember some of the verses from my dream....
I immediately raced to my computer again and did not stop until this poem was completed..
I hope it worthy and that you may not only enjoy but also find something of benefit in your daily lives..
As truth is, we all at one time of another face great adversity in this dark and too oft unmerciful world. -Tyr

Dear Mother, All This You Did And Far More
    (Tribute To Loving Mothers)

Answer true, would you, sacrifice it all
    volunteer to stand , back against the wall;
fight this world with all its dark, evil traps
    go hungry, even eat mere table scraps;
face off against, hungry beasts in the wild
to love, hold and safely care for your child?

Would you, walk barefoot upon frozen ground
    suffer cuts and bruises making no sound;
if need be, sacrifice your peace of mind
    for your children always be good and kind;
with loving joy work hard both day and night
while teaching them how to live and do right?

Dear mother, all this you did and far more
    pray we, hear this from heaven's distant shore;
watch as we continue on with your cause
    seeking not any guilt precluding clause;
live life in this realm, happy, bold and free
know true love, all because of love in thee!

That Vow, To Yet Again Walk Forested Trails

In forest deep, wondrous gems lay hidden
yet lay he there, in great pain bedridden.
Through his window he could see forest edge
hopes he had, soon became a solemn pledge.
Some day, some sweet day he would again walk
visit that forested world, with Nature talk.
Stroll among gnarled trees, roots firmly planted
vow he made, to never be recanted.
Each day he would wiggle that his big toe
sure little by little feeling would grow.
One year and he achieved use of both feet
proud of all that work done under bed-sheet.
Six months more, he could feel up to his knee
he watched that forest cheer its helpful plea.
Winter came and he could sit up in bed
sadness gone, cobwebs were cleared from his head.
Spring flew in and to kitchen he could stroll
man was he happy, he was on a roll.
June saw his first joyful step on outside
his heart filling with rapture and deep pride.
By Summer's end, he threw away his cane
with determined voice swore that oath again.
As gold leaves fell, date was set for his trek
he vowed to never look back at his wreck.
This time of year his car had struck a tree
bed confined, he thought to never be free.
That dawn came, into the forest he ran
God gave blessed hope and his Nature plan.
Walking in deep, gems everywhere he saw
all about critter tracks with little paws.
    Overhead, songbirds fluttered all about
sweet bird-songs came like water from a spout.
Now in tune with life, forest vow complete
he walked home, on those new dancing feet!

    R.J. Lindley

Note. This poem was written about the car wreck and later the amazing recovery
my friend had, and the vow he made, after looking out that window and thinking of me out in the woods hunting as I once did so often.
He being a Nature lover same as I and so very at home in the woods.
We once hunted together and had great times, but life sent us down separate and far distant paths.
Now I hear from friends that he is in a bad way and has not much more time left on this earth.
Today, I searched old boxes in storage, until I found this old poem to present.
    Hope you may enjoy...

When One Finds Shield And Sword Are Both Broken

Back when Life and Time were rarely considered,
youth, headstrong and reckless had its way.
Wise words were garbage that merely hindered
great adventures and joys of the day.

Now father Time, comes to say- pay heed,
wasted years are bought at very high cost!
Your joy were choices made by human greed
destinations reached, proved you were lost!

But defensive mind, rallies thoughts to rebel
gathered from earth, sky, sea and storm.
This lame and futile curse- You go to Hell!
as if feeble echoes can cause Time any harm!

When one finds shield and sword are both broken,
defiant words are weakness- ignorantly spoken!

    Robert J. Lindley, 9-10-2017
Sonnet, ( When Time Laughs At Our Feeble Echoes)

Note-- After having recently and lazily presented so many old poems from my youth I decided to write one this morn..
Hope you find it worthy, entertaining and maybe something to ponder.-Tyr

Dark Day, Childhood Castle Was Felled

Deed was dark, day of its felling
    deafening that mighty crash!
Tragic this tale of the telling
    thoughtless men, acting so rash.

Where rests now, its flying hordes,
    winged weary and storm attacked?
Hammer and nails will pierce its boards
    another forest gem ransacked!

    Horror struck, sight of destruction
    young lad, heart was thus impaled;
    needed wisdom, life's instruction
on why sincere prayer had failed!

    Mighty oak, child's treasured friend
taken, slain as if not alive,
yes, said - all things come to this end
greed is gold, for its luster strive.

    When death invades, innocence lost
will such deep scars ever heal?
Can gold thus gained, justify cost
when a child finds heart break real?

    R.J. Lindley,
    May 25th, 1977

Note- (Poem was inspired by the (1968) cutting down of our childhood castle, swing and climbing kingdom of childhood fantasy). My younger brothers and sisters cried..
Forest behind our home was being timbered out for its dollar value in its old, mighty and majestic oak trees.
Although land was owned by others, children see such gems when so loved as their own..

Old Man Stop, Let Your Mind Return To See

Old man, what kind of poet will you be
write of tall tales, pirates on high seas?
    Perhaps adventures in mystical realms,
with love stories, romance that overwhelms?

Old man, why does your pen have no more words
your blue skies lack color and songbirds?
Has life and love now let your sad soul down?
Your big smile and great joy both wear a frown?

Old man stop, let your mind return to see
flower's beauty, ripe fruit from Nature's trees.
Drink again, waters from love and life's wells
    taste deserts, enjoy aromatic smells.

Old man, think harder, look again at me.
I, your heart lust for life, long to be free!

Tribute To Those That Have Made Such Sacrifices

What red-hot fire could you kindle in beating chest
that would set you above and beyond all the rest?
Would it suffice, to birth glowing embers that burn
away weakness and vices your soul should spurn?
Or embrace love and hope as guardian of your will
to forever your human darkness and frailties kill?

Would your willing hands seek out the weak to aid
sacrifice your wealth and time to never get paid?

Could you walk weary miles on bleeding feet
endure miserable times with very little to eat?
Yet maintain a kind heart and cheerful air
to relieve those sick with deep despair?
Or snatch heavy burdens with eager hands
help them raise their crops on desert lands?

Would your willing hands seek out the weak to aid
sacrifice your wealth and time to never get paid?

What red-hot fire could you kindle in beating chest
that would set you above and beyond all the rest?
Would it suffice, to birth glowing embers that burn
away weakness and vices your soul should spurn?

I have labored on writing this tribute poem for about 9 weeks now. Leaving it, coming back, making changes.
Always trying to improve it, as nothing seemed good enough.
Then I finally saw the light, my father tho' extremely intelligent was still a simple man.
One that believed good triumphs over evil, that people are only human and thus they should not be judged against a perfection yardstick.
For weeks I sought perfection to honor him, one I so dearly love.
Then he seemed to say to me this morn-- " son, when love is true it is already perfection, regardless of how its presented."
With that in mind, I finished this poem today. And hope you may enjoy it and think beautiful and loving thoughts/memories of your
own father, be he now living or passed on as is mine..-Tyr

    Just An Old Man

Just an old man I came to know
his mind still busy, feet were slow.
Tired feet lounged in old, worn shoes
he had lived, lived and paid his dues!

An old man, one I always loved
one who taught me to fight when shoved.
Showed me to be kind when one could
how to work hard and saw firewood!

An old man, long ago I knew
taught me to say, yes sir on cue.
Suffered to give more than he had
to raise good sons, not to be bad!

An old man, one God took away
taught me true love and how to pray.
Gave his kind heart and gave his all
to teach me to stand proud and tall!

An old man, that never forgot
to aid me, were I on the spot
Old man that gave, not being asked
in that bright light, this soul once basked!

Just an old man, so brave and true
wore the old, to buy me the new.
An old man, one I so cherish
I pray to meet, when I perish!

An old man, one I hope to see
that good son, he raised me to be.
Just an old man, one that loved me
pray I, to one day be as he!

Magic, When Such Leaves Without A Trace

That fall, my friend's older brother died,
sun rose all shining that day and sky
looked down as he feel to ground and cried
he had no chance to say a good-bye

from graveyard day until that new Spring
    he uttered not another word
he saw not life nor love in a damn thing
and hated singing from the songbirds,

that summer, something broke, alive he came
walk as if he had found new life
he entered again into this world's game
love came, he soon found his wife,

what of sorrow and its long hard embrace
the chills and pains that crack hearts
magic, when such leaves without a trace
and winds of life and love restarts.

    With Bond Both Will Keep

    Ahead of river's wide bends
    In forests wide and deep
Mortal child seeks and Nature befriends
    With bond both will keep.

    Upon trails, into woods fair
    Child wanders into sweet delight
    Blissful smiles and great care
    Loving all gems in sight.

    Through ravines teen did tread
    Into streams splashed and swam
    Nature's wonders filled his head
Cried he, "In love I am".

June morn, grown man he stood
    In welcoming woods he went
    Walked softly as he should
    There Nature's love was sent.

    Ahead of river's wide bends
    In forests wide and deep
Mortal child seeks and Nature befriends
    With bond both will keep.

OLD NOTE, (1971)-- Hunting and fishing are my passion. Nature provides, I partake..

Note-- From my earliest childhood memories, Nature spoke to me.
I wandered through its forested treasures and gave a child's sincere thanks.
I swam its rivers and rested on its banks.
As I grew, I kept that wooded bond. Learned all that I could.
My heart and soul each year grew more fond.
Then as a wild adult, I temporarily lost sight.
Wandered this dark world- blinded in its savage might!
Later when Nature finally sent me new light.
This world's dark embrace I broke with an epic fight.
I remember not the when nor the how
but return I did to that child's sincere vow.....

In Dreams, Pearly Jewels Around Her Throat

She returns in dreams, pearly jewels around her throat
summer's heat or winter's cold- always dressed to slay
diamonds fall as she sings in her soft and gentle way
I hear, saddest echoes of love-poems, that I ever wrote!

What of that paradise that only in a dream is now known
wet touch of willing lips and I want you in her eyes
radiance of red roses, kisses under moonlit skies
O' such wondrous fruits, her time away has grown!

Always she brings sweet aura's from her hidden home
renewed virginal images, promises we once truly held
before that dark night, one that our love, tragically felled
and into that realm, her dear soul now has to roam!

She returns in dreams, pearly jewels around her throat
summer's heat or winter's cold- always dressed to slay
diamonds fall as she sings in her soft and gentle way
I hear, saddest echoes of love-poems, that I ever wrote!

As time goes by, I see it as the past
but my mind says, take it as it comes
My body, however, says it belongs in a cast
I think I'll go forward and try to stay plumb

They say time waits for no one
    I'm sure that means me
But to dwell on the hearwithall
    Can surely drag to knee

    Myself I'll drudge onward
    Eyes to the sky
For the thoughts of the dredges
Surely will not get me the prize

Very nice. Can you give me the title and author of the piece my friend?
If it is yours, then I say bravo! -Tyr

Stacking Regrets Like Dark, Red-stained Floor Tiles

    Daily cannibalism of heart's desires,
    cannon fire, emotions sear and sting;
in canisters of love that never tires,
    unending fires such forever brings!

With bluebird dreams, thy hand once soothed my pain,
    with night's passions thy soft touch bestows;
thy memory, sweetest hope doth remain
like rolling reruns of great romance shows!

Before thee came, I had only deep lusts
    in callousness, this new heart now reviles;
darkness blown in malevolent wind gusts
stacking regrets like dark, red-stained floor tiles!

Gone! Mystery and loss left in thy wake
In haste, our time and love thee did forsake!
