Excellent, Robert, awesome for a 17 year old.
That's something I've been dealing with, wondering about as I get older, just how quick things can get snuffed out. And just how short our time on earth really is.

“You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named "Bush", "Dick", and "Colin." Need I say more?” - Chris Rock
This is remarkably spiritually inciteful for someone just 17 years old, Robert. It's also quite beautiful.
Thanks for adding it to this thread.

It's That Bloody Foreigner Again !!!
I guess we all deal with it at one time or another. Seems that poets deal with it more, as is evident in their many famous poems on the subject.
I was 10 years old when my grandmother died and my father told me--
"son, we all die eventually. What matters is how you live your life and how you treat others. I want you to remember this and do your very best to treat others fairly and help others in need, when you can.
Although good deeds alone will not get you into Heaven, they are a huge plus if one makes it there.
Son, there is no shame because you cried, the shame would be if you had not done so. For at your age, you are not expected to show the strength and fortitude often required of a man in such cases,
When I go, just think of me on a very long trip and waiting on you to arrive."
Five years after that, he went on ahead and is now waiting...-Tyr

I look back now at how my father's death turned me into a bitter, fight the world person for 17 long years and think what a waste.
Yet, there were lessons learned in those dark years.

Others have endured far worse and fair'ed far worse as a result methinks..

Spring's Rebirth, Heals Both Heart And Waiting Lands
Upon dawn's golden rays, soft breeze floats its songs
Songs of new beginnings beneath rainbow wings;
Winging through forest lush and its hidden throngs
Are rare and beautiful gems only Nature brings.
Should my soul, feasting upon such wondrous art
Firmly embrace those new dreams that are thus born;
Savor food, and more Nature freely imparts,
Treasured fair, that heals those oft lonely and forlorn.
There within radiance, thrilling lights ablaze
Spring's hunger- In seeded soils after fresh rain,
Emerge new Life- blessings that gift and amaze
Bringing forth, Love and newer Hopes hard to explain.
In that moment- Earth, Sky and Heaven's wondrous Arts
Birth aspirations that heal even broken hearts!

Last Of Earth's White Knights Advance Warrior Scouts
(Part One)
You, that plunder and pillage in your dreams,
content to steal as you joyously slay,
in dark caverns, hiding from sun's bright beams,
cowardly, afraid of bright light of day.
Warrior born of ancient woods of the South,
Calling without fear, thy malignant soul out,
here rest I, by thy dungeon's wide, black mouth,
last of earth's White Knights advance warrior scouts.
That chill, now spreading into your marrows,
born from tales of destruction we have wrought,
fear now joins in thy demonic sorrows
with regrets, your sorry hide I have caught.
You, that plunder and pillage in your dreams,
content to steal as you joyously slay,
in dark caverns, hiding from sun's bright beams,
cowardly, afraid of bright light of day.
My sharp blade your purple heart shall soon pierce
in death's last throes, you shall beg for release,
for we of the olden guard are born fierce
with massive white-hot fires that never cease!
I hear thy ravenous growl filled with fear,
now your death shall come before first cock crows,
with pleasure your death gurgles I will hear
vengeful eyes will feast as your black blood flows!
Vengeful eyes will feast as your black blood flows,
when your death shall come before first cock crows!

Old Note- NONE....
New Note Today- I only remember that period in my young life, I went through abreak-up with my first wife. Seems to me I may have written this when drunk on whiskey. Decided not to edit it today but just present it as was first written.
And my handwriting is just barely readable which indicates to me that, I was
very likely quite plastered.

Requiem On Death, Its Fated Black Hand
Fated death, should thy black-hand descend upon me,
I vow to give thee only blood and rusty bones.
No cries, to spare my fleeting life, its memory
Nor bartering for that which Fate never postpones.
With regrets of missing family, my true love
Waiting that day, preparing to defeat my fears.
Leaving behind all, reminiscent and tired of
Pray I, thy bitter pains, bring soul's welcoming tears.
Knowing all mortal time is but a blinded leap
From echoes of ancient forests of gold and stones.
Moments of happiness begging that twilight sleep
Dreams of magnificent love and its softest moans.
Shall I fail and I give thee thy sought after cries
I beg mercy, battles fought, with few victories
Perhaps my folly was dear truth this heart denies
Sweetly seduced by thy dark shadow mysteries.
Fated death, should thy black-hand descend upon me
I vow to give thee only blood and rusty bones
No cries, to spare my fleeting life, its memory
Nor bartering for that which Fate never postpones.

Death Of The Dark Witch On Blackstone Mountain
(Part One of Three)(Evil Seen And Faced)
As you live, for your Hell's hot breath exudes
black curses upon unsuspecting hearts.
Safe today, from well devised blind attitudes
that man reap only what his soul imparts!
No tales told, demons sent to slash and maim
for today your kind are mere fairy tales.
Some few watch and see within your dark game
following paths of your demons nightly trails.
In that great lair, where your wicked heart beats
lay huge chests of curses you have written.
By dark magic, innocent lives oft meet
spirit blades, your wickedness has smitten!
Weakness exists for you on blindness depend
and on darker forces slavishly obey.
With true faith, some set out to justice send
your hideous face and black heart away!
Death of the dark witch on Blackstone mountain
some swearing even to die to achieve.
They drinking water from Life and Love's fountain
have sworn justice for those that now so grieve!
Your black arts, are no match for Light's power
nor the deepest courage its warriors gained
For soon cometh that last black-hearted hour
And this realm will be free from all you stained!

I Walked Shadow's Edge, Thought I Was Free
When you knew me, I was not truly me
for time and age had not yet soul remade.
I walked shadow's edge, thought I was free
eager as a child selling lemonade.
Now I see beauty in earth, sky and trees
for time, gifted miseries to teach me.
I lost every new ship, I put to sea
still blindly thinking that my soul was free.
Now some say past is dead, regret no more
I say friend, "my treasures lay there in wait".
For my lost sails, searched for paradise shores
thus I sought to deny, dark hand of Fate.

As His Young Fan Stood, Terror In His Heart
Coming home from war a different man
his only son, by far his biggest fan.
Yet horror of war deaths in his mind dwell
death of his brothers, war's mad, raging hell!
Blood and guts in war's horrific display
screams in dying, as they began to pray.
Helpless to save brothers, his dearest friends
brought violent seizures, gut wrenching bends.
As his young fan stood, terror in his heart
nothing helped, no wisdom could he impart.
Another war's victim stood there in fear
so afraid his father's death was now near.
With God's love and grace, he said, "son please pray"
For blessing, you never face war someday!

Once, When Darkness Invaded Peaceful Sleep
There are moon shadows, moving out tonight,
More numerous than sad dreams in my head-
I call for wild horses to race from bed,
Into calmer realms of vast silent dead!
Within that place, silence cuts like a knife,
And too soon I taste that old dragon's smell-
Shocked to find myself in this ghostly hell
Where lost souls live a muted afterlife!
Now nightmare takes another darker twist,
Doors appear labeled, fair, yes, no, and foul-
Praying to escape but not knowing how
Fear grips, for through each door evil exists!
Aghast, at the decision which to choose,
Emerging fire forces me to leap quick-
Through first door marked fair, suddenly struck sick
Confirmed, hell's choices one will always lose!
Sick and fallen, I rise to find at my feet,
Huge serpents with long fangs and evil hiss-
In deep anger, I cry- "Enough of this!"
Come on out so one us can meet defeat!
Thunderous boom and wicked voice screams back
You are not the first to dare challenge me-
Each weak soul thought only of victory
I've one loss, my many wins I've lost track!
Now recovered and in defiant voice
Righteous anger surging in angry heart-
I vowed to tear that devil all apart
Decision made, I leaped, his throat my first choice!
On contact great power flew into me
Herculean strength surging in each arm-
In that monster's eyes, showed newfound alarm
It soon whimpering, begged to set me free!
Dawn's bright light streaming through windowpane
I laughed at such a long and most foolish dream-
But then, voice boomed out- "We won as a team"
You know me, I need not further explain!

For Change, I Will Savage The World Today
Alas! This life was not always so grey,
so devoid of excitement and bright shouts.
For change, I will savage the world today
slow-cooking far more than just Brussel sprouts.
What of blackbird notes- Spring's waters and new moon
stony trails and rain beating upon new skins?
Crops flourishing in the sweet month of June
or the lustful vagaries and weakness of men?
Green moss, speaking from ancient trees
fleet shadows passing forth upon grey walls.
Black boots and old bloodstains, splashed to the knees
beautiful dead horses and dark empty stalls?
Alas! This life was not always so grey,
so devoid of excitement and bright shouts.
For change, I will savage the world today
slow-cooking far more than just Brussel sprouts.
Lone mongrels and immaculate party gowns
loud new bands playing with knives, forks and spoons?
Big city blues and gossip in small towns
cowboys drinking, spitting in brass spittoons?
Deep crevices between low lying hills
lonely nights that walk into door-less rooms.
Burning August days and cold noonday chills
brides weeping over disappearing grooms?
Alas! This life was not always so grey,
so devoid of excitement and bright shouts.
For change, I will savage the world today
slow-cooking far more than just Brussel sprouts.
What of rivers no longer flowing to seas
gleeful celebrations of parched white bones?
Sad black pianos with no ivory keys
human agony with no wailing groans?
Eyeless creatures waking from bloodstained beds
hearing only cannons, falsely praised cheers.
Lies gently stroked and religiously spread
depravities, covered by thin veneers?
Alas! This life was not always so grey,
so devoid of excitement and bright shouts.
For change, I will savage the world today
slow-cooking far more than just Brussel sprouts.
What of screaming crowds and hope thus dismissed
and shoes made for giants with toe-less feet?
Or frail crying girls that have never been kissed,
perhaps will never feel love's deepest heat?
Diaries penned in misery and red-blood
dainty fingers with polished nails ripped out.
Graveyards with tombstones washed by winter floods
with decaying bodies washed all about.
Alas! This life was not always so grey,
so devoid of excitement and bright shouts.
For change, I will savage the world today
slow-cooking far more than just Brussel sprouts.

Note- I shortened this poem. Removed twelve verses.
Reason is, far too many readers today ignore longer poems and often fail to understand if too much personal heartache, life's disappointments
and harsh judgement is written into the piece.
I have the original longer version well kept in my private journal.
Is it better with the twelve extra verses and not edited? I have no clue myself.-- Tyr

Decided to edit a bit this old poem. Update the old note and look back again at my youth--its follies, foolishness, wild ways and too oft miserable times! Such is life and we that survived it--if lucky, learned from it and lived to better ourselves, change our ways and find happiness.-Tyr
Not So Long Ago, I Longed For Sweeter Taste
Not long ago, I walked this world in haste
not so long ago, I longed for sweeter taste.
Yet now I, beg for words to ease my sad soul
capturing again your heart, my only goal!
Once before, streams bubbled and dancing moon shone
not long ago, I did not sit here alone.
That was once, when your beautiful heart joined mine
our days of pure bliss, and our world was all fine!
Once before, when pretty blooms graced apple branch
not long ago, we swore eternal romance!
Now deepest red Fall, illustrates our demise
while we both hurt and wear our happy disguise!
Not long ago, I walked this world in haste
not so long ago, I longed for sweeter taste.
Yet now I, beg for words to ease my sad soul
capturing again your heart, my only goal!
Once before, you love touch drove me insane
not long ago, our love we swore to maintain!
Yet now, our apple tree has found bitter root
tainting our love, birthing sad decaying fruit!
Once before, days and nights were our paradise
that was before the sun fell, to be precise!
Now shadows, follow our miserable path
and now, we face love betrayed and its great wrath!
Not long ago, I walked this world in haste
not so long ago, I longed for sweeter taste.
Yet now I, beg for words to ease my sad soul
capturing again your heart, my only goal!

Old Note- When such deep sadness, eats into wounded heart and brittle bone.
Harsh reality bites deep, when one sits sad and so alone.
New Note- Life flows forth, we walk our path too oft in gleeful blindness.
Only after this dark world beats us mercilessly do we start to open our eyes and if blessed--change our ways!
If sincere and dedicated, more often than not-- those past treasures lost, stolen or simply cast aside will be delivered yet again for us to decide to not be so foolish as to not appreciate and make the right choice!
If we do, then that which was sought and blindly not seen will be seen, embraced and brings its rewards.
In our youth we are too oft blind to the fact, we are the problem, not those that we choose to blame.

Those Poison Arrows That Fate's Dark Bow Flings
Crows calling, sun rising, day is falling
dawn's emerging new mysteries abound.
We walk through this world oft found appalling,
with eyes closed and ears hearing no deep sound!
I sit, broken man, pondering this thought,
Nature beauty, its replenishing rains.
Casting out nets, examining fish thus caught
and why too oft we bring on our own pains!
Why sunny skies can not heal broken heart,
Spring's cool winds, sad memories that now brings.
Why romance oft fails and lives fall apart
and poison arrows that Fate's dark bow flings!
Crows calling, sun rising, day is falling
dawn's emerging new mysteries abound.
We walk through this world oft found appalling,
with eyes closed and ears hearing no deep sound!
As I walk into cold and lonely nights
lost crying feet -seeking out matching tunes.
Finding more pains in those shadowy sights
cast by long light-spears from dark broken moons!
Always, I find I have reached our sweet spot,
that hidden cove that gave us such great bliss.
Sad memory I'd rather have than not
of our time there and your every soft kiss!
Crows calling, sun rising, day is falling
dawn's emerging new mysteries abound.
We walk through this world oft found appalling,
with eyes closed and ears hearing no deep sound!
Back home, I enter rooms without your glow
bedroom there lays your latest party purse.
Darling, that cut hurts more than you can know
yet my waking without you is far worse!
Tomorrow I vow to borrow new hope,
write a poem to forget these crushing blues.
Drink another stronger drink just to cope,
with this dark fate and paying my sad dues!
Crows calling, sun rising, day is falling
dawn's emerging new mysteries abound.
We walk through this world oft found appalling,

In Her Warmth, Winter's Bitterest Cold Was Destroyed
Saw dark world, while enduring winter's bitter cold
no beauty in Nature as his father had told.
Middle child, farm born and in its great hardship raised
seeing nothing in Nature's dark wrath to be praised!
As the Years and Time both began to his life teach
more understanding into his young heart did reach.
Forests and its animals he had come to love,
with majesty of night stars shining high above.
Gazing across fields of flowers, lush green clover
dreaming of the beauty of her, one farm over.
How she glowed when giving him that first kiss that day
those sweet visits when her parents were gone away!
How he found, with her love, world's dark he could avoid
In her warmth, winter's bitterest cold was destroyed!

Come every November, I remember winter's bitter cold in my youth(the 60's).
And I remember a ravishing beauty, that brought warmth and light into a dark and sad world-
even tho' nothing ever happened, more than just a great many kisses!!
From my private journal, oldest poem written(age 14).
Edited greatly today, as I changed verses to past tense, since this is a look back..--Tyr

Fragmented Thoughts And Other Vanities
Why do stray dogs bark very late at night
do they fear man's greed, waking up in fright?
Can dogs dream of huge castles, gold and bones
show love's pleasure with deep, feverish moans?
Why do birds fly patterns in sunny skies
and oft decide to drop little bird pies?
Or in winter neatly line power lines
as beggars looking for promising signs?
Could earth ever purge darkest realities
avoid future death with sad finalities?
Or wake to create another new season
to slow man's greed and lusts, with good reason?
Why do stray dogs bark very late at night
do they fear man's greed, waking up in fright?
Can dogs dream of huge castles, gold and bones
show love's pleasure with deep, feverish moans?
Could man's life, stand any more mysteries
begin to learn from tragic histories?
Or wake to see Nature and we are wed
stuck together til one of us is dead?
