Woke up. Could not go back to sleep. So I wrote this dark piece.--Tyr

    poet's notes

    Robert J. Lindley, 11-01-2017

(nightmares, monsters and this evil world's other dark gifts)
    rhyme-(12/12)

Ravenous Wolf Will Not Thy Appetite Thee Sate

    sate-
    sate1
    sat/
    verb
verb: Sate; 3rd person present: Sates; past tense: Sated; past participle: Sated; gerund or present participle: Sating

satisfy (a desire or an appetite) to the full.
"sate your appetite at the resort's restaurant"
supply (someone) with as much as or more of something than is desired or can be managed.

Ravenous Wolf, Will Not Thy Appetite Thee Sate

Monster, from what black demonic lair, does thee hail
with thy razor claws and malignant odor smell?
Deafening, thy blasting that fear inducing sound
racing up from thy beastly estate underground!

Ravenous wolf, will not thy appetite thee sate
with thy piercing fangs buried deep in this dream state?

Monster, when will thee tire of this sad, morbid game
gnash and rip me to shreds, erase my cursed name?
Come now my foe. Let us fight just this one last fight
finally, thy wicked hide, i can burn this night!

Ravenous wolf, will not thy appetite thee sate
with thy piercing fangs buried deep in this dream state?

Monster, thee hast lost, when thy fear holds no power
for this night, thy defeat comes in the midnight hour.
Will thy evil howls turn into screams of defeat
as thy crushed carcass lays at this true victor's feet?

Ravenous wolf, will not thy appetite thee sate
with thy piercing fangs buried deep in this dream state?

Rascal, A Vagabond, A Thief Seeking - Amens!

I went into a dark room to pay for my sins
rascal, a vagabond, a thief seeking - Amens!
I dwelt there, lost fool still in disgraceful disguise
truth can not be denied, word to the wise!

Without gleaming mornings, noon-times or clear, bright nights
flashes in ice-cold darkness, revealed monstrous sights.
Hands chained, I walked barefoot upon broken glass
I prayed for dawns and walks on soft green grass!

Years flew by, rescue seemed an impossible dream
hands tied, I could write no words to my soul redeem
There were far more deep cuts than those upon bare feet
for each night, dark monsters I had to greet!

I went into a dark room to pay for my sins
a rascal, a vagabond, thief seeking - Amens!
If ever you find yourself in such a bad mess
best to hit your knees and your wickedness confess!

    Robert,

I love this poem "I Pray for Mercy and a Tally Not Too Precise"! You put into words some general thoughts I have ever had. In the end, we all need to pray more for mercy than for justice. We always underestimate how much we're more in need of the mercy.

Thy Kindness And Mercy Shall Forever Prevail

Against light of a thousand moons thy face outshines
gleaming bright stars and night sky's brilliant glow.
Thou art sad heart's feast, upon thy love lost soul dines
with man's well soothed spirit racing in tow.

Standing in earth's darkness, you destroy blackened hues
in perfect harmony thy voice rewards.
With peace, joy and hope asking no repayment dues
thou art true love sang by the olden bards.

Against the massive plights of vilest earthen ills
thy gentle touch gifts healing relief.
In thy denying pain of Hades wicked wills
man may find again life saving belief.

Against dreaded death's long, painful and darkest veil
Thy kindness and mercy shall forever prevail.

I Pray For Mercy And A Tally Not Too Precise

When years of my life are measured for next realm's path,
I pray dear mercy and blind eye to youthful deeds.
I did so sin, in my rage and black-hearted wrath,
sought icy cold beer seeking time to sow wild seeds.

What man can claim meekness and good all his life long,
walking in peace and aiding those so much weaker
Then, I danced jubilantly to love in song
fool long ago, was only a pleasure seeker!

Now facing fleeting Time and Fate's loud ticking clock
THIS WEEPING SOUL PRAYS FOR MERCY SWEET AND DIVINE
Once proud of both my fists, hammers as hard as rock
now I know it was all soft, as rot on the vine.

When life is judged for entry into paradise
I pray for mercy and a tally not too precise!

If Breaking Form, Enjoy Taking That Chance

When you write your words, hell just let 'em flow
open heart and mind, speak plain as honest Joe.
Let pen, ink and muse dance and soundly jell
even should it wake to crack somebody's shell.

And should you find, moments of fearful doubt
reach in deeper and just let it all fly out.
There is power in truth, ripped from one's heart
helping others to know, sets us apart.

Poets should first sing well and then gaily dance
if breaking form, enjoy taking that chance.
For rebelling has helped poetry grow
gifts are not all tied with bright ribbon and bow.

Be of good cheer, hold on to life's great gift
Oft greatest, is to other lives so uplift.

    Deep Within Love's Soft Veils

Walk, this new path with me-
    Within dawn's beckoning new lights,
    Where Spring's new flowers grow,
    Cool days wandering into nights,
Long before the cold winter snows.

Walk, this new path with me-
From loneliness to love's great gift,
    Sweet words and softer touch,
    Wading into streams that uplift,
While in love, dare we ask this much?

Walk, this new path with me-
Through flowing years and our great lives,
    In passion's deep abyss,
content, where each loving heart thrives,
sealed with, bright new morn's gentle kiss.

Walk, this new path with me-
    Within dawn's beckoning new lights,
    Where Spring's new flowers grow,
    Cool days wandering into nights,
Long before the cold winter snows.

When By Love His Dark and Broken Heart Was Healed

    Her innocence did his cold, dark heart steal;
FOR WADING IN DARKNESS, HE HAD NO SHAME:
Only what he took, to him seemed to be real
And mercy had never been in his game.

    Seeing her beauty and innocent ways;
DARKNESS IN HIS BLACK SOUL CRIED TO THIS STEAL:
Gentle sweetness and her soft, peaceful days
Another victim for his lustful meal.

    Fate and Evil allowed his sad conquest;
THIS TIME IT CAME WITH ITS OWN CLEVER TWIST:
Day or night he found her dear touch the best
And knew not why his eyes began to mist!

    Moment came, thunder and lighting was felt;
GREATEST SHOCK, WHEN LOVE IS FOUND TO BE REAL:
With this new turn, fire burned til darkness melt
He felt shame trying such beauty to steal!

    Caught between new and true love and past deeds;
He cried for help and to hold this great gift:
Suddenly he found his new heart now bleeds
And only faithful love, his soul uplift!

    Once darkness held him in its evil grip;
There lay no room for love's hope and true light:
In his sorrow he felt as a lost ship
With no way to hold her and make things right!

    Then a voice spoke, saying walk your new path;
Abandon your old dark ways and be free:
True love found, you will not suffer my wrath
Be true to her and true will stay with thee!

    What once walked in darkness, now knew true love;
What once was stolen now a gift given:
Mercy and light both granted from above
And in truth's light, they both went on liven'.

Where Nature Too Oft Finds Itself In Mortal Chains

What great truth doth dawn unfold that false pride rejects
Is it the gleam of dew falling from red, red rose?
Is Nature's great beauty, sun and sky both respect
Or strutting peacock striking magnificent pose?

Could it be fair winds whipping lake waters about
As glimmering lights are cast on its sandy shores?
Fish splash and turtles sunbathing with long-neck snouts
Or early morning's rains that splatter as clouds pour?

What great truth doth man's huge vanity yet deny
Could it be, that man so stains Nature's true beauty?
Man a beggar, stealing from earth's heart to get by?
Pretending his crimes are born from love and duty?

Could it be, man's deeds are at best terrible stains
Where Nature oft finds itself, bound in mortal chains?

    Poe's Nightmare And Penitence
    (In The Spirit Of Poe)

Her statue in the hall, moved ever so slightly,
I saw this movement upon every midnight stroke-
Alone, eagerly waiting for this dark magic nightly
Shivers given, very addictive but sadly were no joke,
Anticipation burned awaiting that movement refined
For each night at midnight it moved just a bit more
And sat I, there to watch as I so greedily dined,
Upon the tender, ethereal flesh of my love, Lenore!

As the darkened years swiftly raced into the mists:
I prayed to the dark gods for mercy evermore,
And Lenore's name was always on my pleading lists
Come back, come back again to me- my sweet Lenore!

Last year, that eerie, moving statue began to smile
A wicked little grin, a grimace for to be sure
My mind confused, for this was not in her style
    The movement and soft grace of my Lenore so pure;
Aha! Could this be the spirit of the Raven gone?
Returneth to plague and so vex my tired old Soul,
Or my mind deranged from its loneliness trying to atone
For a grieving hate-darkened heart as black as coal?

Now the statue has made it from corner to the door,
There was no creaking and groaning as it slowly walks
Nor any of the great beauty resplendent in my Lenore
Yet for years now, we've had our mystical, nightly talks!

Last night the door opened and away she magically flew
By all the dark gods, I cried for her to not fly away!
Please stay and in this dark dungeon reside, just we two,
    Alas! Aghast at this penitence, my ruined heart to pay;
Where once the sheer brightness of her love and name,
Would heal my wounds and thus join us in bright light of day
Raven! What hellish playing you've done in this wicked game
For I grieve ever more, for Lenore to love me and stay!

As We Jostle For That Next New Joy-Ride

How shall we seek out our happiness now
at this closing of this our darkest hour?
When life brings on a dark so very foul
no brave flag waves from this castle's tower.

Only stench of the corruption below
holds our dulled senses in disbelief.
    Multi-colored balloons, just for show
in our deep blindness, we feel no true grief.

    Fields stretched in desolation galore
barren yet seen with usual foolish pride.
Seas foaming with sad and polluted shores
as we jostle for that next new joy-ride!

Shall we clap, welcome our coming demise
Or seek counsel from some sages most wise?

    R.J. Lindley
    Spring, 1990

NEW NOTE--I have absolutely no memory of what event, inspired this old poem. Could have been a dark-cloud night and bad troubles long since forgotten. I am now quite sure if that is the case , I do not want to regain that lost memory.
I could not write this morn--as the blues ate too deeply into my soul last night. Thus I present this old write and hope that some may enjoy reading it. Twenty-seven years ago, it was inked down on paper and now I have no memory of the why and/or the event that triggered it.

Long Talk With My Grandfather, I Should Have Listened

Old man sat on wooden front porch apple peeling
talking to me pulling weeds in his flower bed
He oft had that wide eyed gaze, with its sad feelings
of world's deep woes and battle cries in his old head.

Oft would say, young man, pull that weed right over there
as if my eyes were as blind as often his were
In anger I'd pull weeds right next to it and stare
wait for him to bark at me, like a surly cur!

We played that game, talking around and we learned
more about life and this world than we knew before
Its too easily given treasures we both spurned
and sailing rotten ships upon its stony shores.

Old man would say, young man now you listen up close
be careful of they that will lure away your heart
they will eat your eager young soul, leave you morose
that will be the wicked cut that tears you apart!

I merely smiled, having heard all this crap before
his words tho' true fell upon blind mind and deaf ears
In romantic dreams I saw simmering love and more
raging hot pleasures finding me through coming years!

Now I know, his words given were wise and so true
for those o' so hot pleasures were just deeper traps
Each laced with sharper cutting blades and pits of glue
my legs and arms soon bound with unbreakable straps.

Now in dreams I see old man there apple peeling
he says, you never learned to pull that one weed
In life you sought to gain more in love by stealing
but only found heartache making you slowly bleed!

Old man sat on wooden front porch apple peeling
talking to me pulling weeds in his flower bed
He oft had that wide eyed gaze, with its sad feelings
of world's deep woes and battle cries in his old head.

    The Christmas Blessing

Dawn he woke, frosted windowpane wiped to see
glistening earth and how the coming day would be.
Christmas season, his kids were ecstatic and overjoyed
yet mom could not come, that their joy would destroy!

Then he thought, leave that worry for tomorrow
tis the wondrous season for joy, not for sorrow.
A time to give thanks for sweet blessings one had
embrace the season's heart, not be so very sad!

Memories flooded forth, she was his greatest love
a blessing, a true-life angel gifted from above.
He could see her standing there, her beautiful smile
she had promised, will be back in a little while.

Again great sadness burst into his dearest dream
"a little while", turned into forever, or so it did seem.
Then his thoughts, were interrupted by a phone call
she phoned saying, I am coming home after all.

Overseas job had ended and she would catch the next flight
She was in tears, know together they'd be that night!
He held back, not daring to cry in front of their three kids
knowing his company had done that, with its winning bids!

She would never know, the huge loss it would take
he did not care, missing her more, his heart would break.
Kids were crying, hearing their mom was soon to arrive
as if they had been dying and now they would survive!

Dawn he woke, frosted windowpane wiped to see
glistening earth and how the coming day would be.
Christmas season, his kids were ecstatic and overjoyed
happiest blessing for all, now that mom was unemployed.

Note- Written based upon a real life event. About a friend of my oldest brother and how they had their best Christmas ever. The mom came back from overseas work and soon found a much better job at home.
The dad and was overjoyed being with his beloved wife, the kids in seventh heaven with mom back home and later it turns out that the high winning bid his company submitted to get the contract, still made the company a very hefty profit..
Who says, that hidden blessings are not gifted at Christmas time!??

Table Oft Bare, Nothing, Nothing To Eat

Once he wrote until his tired fingers bled
ink splashed on paper and oft long nights
He a young poet, mind and heart well fed
his Muse even sweeter with great insights!

Cold nights with hot cup of coffee in hand
he would settle in, do nothing but write
Oft of this dark world, no more could he stand
world's savagery and blindness of sight!

Happy weeks, flowed poems of sweet romance
or Nature and beauty gifted mankind
Sad times his darker poems came not by chance
but by deliberate thought to remind!

Now ancient, his tired soul in retreat
Table oft bare, nothing- Nothing to eat!

Found this poem fragment this morn. Had to finish the poem, as my muse never relents when I choose to ignore her. Hope it may be of good cheer and uplift many when reading. As children are the greatest of treasures and Christmas truly highlights that fact, IMHO.--Tyr

A Far Brighter And Blessed Christmas This Year

Last Christmas, little Timmy was so sad and blue
Santa brought no presents, had sent them all to you.
This Christmas he was confident would be better
He had found ink and pen, sent Santa a letter!

One more day and a better Christmas would be here
He knew in his heart and it would be of good cheer.
Gazing out his living room window all that morn
He saw carol singers, praise Christ that had been born!

That night, while little Timmy slept safe in his bed
White snow and presents, were dream visions in his head.
In his home, mom and dad were wrapping many gifts
Saying prayers for God's blessing that so uplifts!

For Dad had gotten an advance on his first book.
God blessed, a sincere prayer, was all it had took.

Only what he took, to him seemed to be real
And mercy had never been in his game.

    Seeing her beauty and innocent ways;
DARKNESS IN HIS BLACK SOUL CRIED TO THIS STEAL:
Gentle sweetness and her soft, peaceful days
Another victim for his lustful meal.

    Fate and Evil allowed his sad conquest;
THIS TIME IT CAME WITH ITS OWN CLEVER TWIST:
Day or night he found her dear touch the best
And knew not why his eyes began to mist!

    Moment came, thunder and lighting was felt;
GREATEST SHOCK, WHEN LOVE IS FOUND TO BE REAL:
With this new turn, fire burned til darkness melt
He felt shame trying such beauty to steal!

    Caught between new and true love and past deeds;
He cried for help and to hold this great gift:
Suddenly he found his new heart now bleeds
And only faithful love, his soul uplift!

    Once darkness held him in its evil grip;
There lay no room for love's hope and true light:
In his sorrow he felt as a lost ship
With no way to hold her and make things right!

    Then a voice spoke, saying walk your new path;
Abandon your old dark ways and be free:
True love found, you will not suffer my wrath
Be true to her and true will stay with thee!

    What once walked in darkness, now knew true love;
What once was stolen now a gift given:
Mercy and light both granted from above
And in truth's light, they both went on liven'.
