Below is the finished collaboration I did with Brenda, which she posted 5 days ago on our poetry site.
From its number of reads and comments, it has been very well received and praised on her home page there.
I just posted it on my home page this morn.--Tyr

    Poet's Notes

Brenda Chiri and Robert J. Lindley collaboration..
    Date:10/30/2017

Note- Has been a joy and an honor to compose with you my friend.
Although my health was not the best, I think this came out very well.
As your start and questioning verses were a magnificent beginning,
that gives rise to the very different way men and women deal with relationship/love and first encounters.
I humbly thank you for your writing with me my friend..

My Heart Beseeches An Answer, A Collaboration With Brenda Chiri

    (Part One- She Asks)

I awakened slowly stretching my body, then into a yawn,
My sleep filled mind remembers you left before the dawn!

Reaching beside me feeling only coolness of my sheet,
Alone now the rain outside hits the ground in rhythmic beat.
The fresh cool breeze whispers through my open window,
Catching billowing curtains into a back and forth show.

Caressing like cold dead fingers upon my naked skin,
Traveling back in time which I know I had let you in.
Our words danced in tango style, each one held a line
Glasses raised to our lips, we sipped succulent red wine.

I awakened slowly stretching my body, then into a yawn,
My sleep filled mind remembers, you left before the dawn!

Soon after we laid together, right here on my bed,
Oh why didn't I stop us then, to turn you away instead?
Now I lay here thinking, as an ache overwhelms my chest,
Gave you what I swore no more, gave you my very best.

Wishing for an answer,on this cold, wet, cloudy day.
How much more my bleeding heart will have to pay?
For allowing this intrusion into my life again I did dare,
Yet I have no answer, of how much or even if you care.

I awakened slowly stretching my body, then into a yawn,
My sleep filled mind remembers you left before the dawn!

    (Part Two- He Answers)

How could I, truly be deserving of such an angel as you
When fear of that impossibility hit so hard, away I flew!

My darling, fear not, my racing away has a most just cause
I woke that morn, your angelic beauty gave me pause.
For my life had for decades fallen into the deepest dark
Then my finding you and our first night together left its mark.

As I looked in the mirror and saw me lying next to you
My heart almost burst, knowing it was too good to be true.
There you were, naked and your alluring beauty sublime
I thought of my past, how if it hurt you, would be a crime!

How could I, truly be deserving of such an angel as you
When fear of that impossibility hit so hard, away I flew!

That morn, I gave my sleeping beauty a sweet kiss
Trying to grab more of what I would soon so dearly miss.
For I could not bear to bring into your sweet life my pains
Or darkness of the dreams emerging from my past stains!

For you see, long ago, for another beauty I once shot a man
I was so crazy in love and thought that was a great plan.
Then our night, soft kisses restored, your gentle touch fired me up
I found my saving paradise, complete with its full golden cup!

How could I, truly be deserving of such an angel as you
When fear of that impossibility hit so hard, away I flew!

Contemplating How We Both Have Walked This Long Road

Decay of mortal flesh, essence of earthly woes
As Time and Fate both deliver their greatest blows
Yet man, yet man can ignore both if so blessed
Relieved of his dark guilt if he has so confessed.

What fruit will not some day fall from its burdened tree
What heartache in life, can not find and touch thee
Can thy blinded spirit withstand, Fate's darkest hand
If thy loving house be built upon shifting sand?

When morn's new light fails to inspire thy mortal soul
Can thy decaying flesh withstand such heavy toll
As death beckons, will thee welcome its sad embrace
Or in greatest of fears, far away try to race?

Once lain under six feet of freshly shoveled ground
Thee can not plead nor utter pleading words profound!

    Dark Rhyme in Twelves..

    Note--
What happened when my vanishing muse decides to return?
She castigated me and threatened to forever spurn
Such a poet that would write only in sweet and romantic words
A toothless wolf, chasing after sad vanishing herds
So the demand came, write this dark and sign thy name
Or forever I abandon you and this word game!
Contemplating how we both have walked this long road
I yielded, in moment of weakness, my soul sold!

Death Came Too Soon And Left It's Heavy Chains

For seventeen years he held back the tears,
Those gushing streams that so begged release.
Deep in his sad soul where greatest of fears,
darkness forever more, giving no peace.

Between Heaven and Hell, time spent in pain,
In silence heard darkness, seen, its great force.
Imprisoned grief, what but anger remains,
what but more pain could bring saving remorse?

As midnight stars had all their beauty lost,
Their lights dimmed and cast pale shadows below.
When even moonlit dreams came at high cost,
He saw only blackness in the white snow!

Death came too soon and left it's heavy chains,
There was much more in its tormenting wake.
Crops sown had yielded only dark stains
Should he chose to love again, he would break!

Each year, thoughts came, when will this black trek end,
Could true light and hope ever be returned.
Tho' he was stricken thus, he still had friends
Not all his friends had he foolishly spurned.

Then one day, bright Light and loud Thunder spoke,
They came by way of words from a dear friend.
Saying, you are blind and this is no joke
Arise! Step out of that pit, this will end.

Your first step, will epic darkness destroy
Second step, lost heart will be repaired.
Third step, will bring back life and its deep joy
For fear and pain, had thy lost soul ensnared.

This collaboration with my friend Brenda Chiri was selected as Poem Of The Day this morn at our poetry site....
I was very lucky to have such a talented writing partner, and truly enjoyed creating this piece with her.-Tyr

Darling, Let This Be Our Sweet Heaven On Earth
    In collaboration with Brenda Chiri

You came to me, that beautiful night in June,
Band was playing wondrous, lovely new tune.
Yes my love, I saw you with love in your eyes
And your stars shown bright in Heavenly skies!

With world that wonderful, full moon that bright
Prayed I, of our pure love, we never lose sight.

That moment, both earth and time seemed to stop
Room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
When you smiled at me, my heart skipped a beat,
I had surrendered, no cause to retreat!

With world that wonderful, full moon that bright
Prayed I, of our pure love, we never lose sight.

Now blessed years have raced and thus away flown
In our sweet union, our pure love has grown.
Come to me, this night at our hidden place,
Let me kiss red lips and all your pretty face!

With world that wonderful, full moon that bright
Prayed I, of our pure love, we never lose sight.

There I shall wait, heart pounding, rose in my hand
we will dance, love's sweet music, no earthly band.
Darling, let this be our sweet Heaven on earth,
promise you my all, all I am ever worth!

With world that wonderful, full moon that bright
Prayed I, of our pure love, we never lose sight.

You ask me to me meet you on this warm June eve,
Band playing beautiful notes that, seemed to weave!
Your love is all I need, in life or require,
Thoughts of you seems, to set me on fire.

Stars seen,as if for the first time ever,
In the cosmos, our love is forever together

At the dance floor, the people seemed to part,
Reveals you darling, as a sculpture of fine art!
Chills run through me, as your smile I do see
Brilliance of it, my salvation set me free.

Stars seen, as if for the first time ever
In the cosmos, our love is forever together

Towards you I stroll,as I flash you my grin,
You take my, hand we hear heaven's violin.
All those years together, still you I do adore,
Simple things in life, you entice to be more.

Stars seen, as if for the first time ever
In the cosmos, our love is forever together

Life made worth living, in your arms so tight,
Your love takes my darkness, showing it light.
Our passion still burns brightly, giving birth
To our own piece, of sweet heaven, here on earth

Stars seen, as if for the first time ever
In the cosmos, our love is forever together

    The Old Man Wrote

The old man was sick yet vowed to fight on
for oft there was steel in his blood and more.
Words used, they oft showed aches in his bones
they revealed hellfire defiance in his core.

When dawn hit and his life saw little joy
he sought solace in past years and their gifts.
Hardships had served to make a man from a boy
and his father's principles, his life uplifts.

Now when times, say they are close to the end
he shrugs and says-- I know, yet shall fight on.
I am a mighty oak and thus refuse to bend
and you shall only hear my angry tone.

With all said, he smiled, laying pen aside
the good and bad, life had been a helluva ride!

The Tired Old Man And His Sweet Christmas Dream

    Christmas was great back then,
even a child knew that was true
    old man paused remembering when
that barefoot kid got his new shoes.

They had good times on that farm
having each other and mom's love
work each day after clock's early alarm
thanked their blessings and God above.

    Smiling happily he saw,
sister had got her secondhand dress
and baby brother his nickel toy
thy had more when they had less.

    Christmas and family had love,
tho' hard, love made up for sad aches
and mother being angel that she was
her now gone, greatest of heartbreaks.

    Snow had blanketed the ground,
he danced in it in his new shoes
sister danced, her blue dress flew around
gone then were his old and sad blues.

    Smiling happily he saw,
sister had got her secondhand dress
and baby brother his nickel toy
thy had more when they had less.

O' how decades have flown by,
    Christmas no longer shines bright
he thought, I am too old to cry
yet cry he did that very night.

Dawn stepped forth with a glow,
a white Christmas morn had came
    waking to that glimmering show
nothing would ever be the same.

    Smiling happily he saw,
sister had got her secondhand dress
and baby brother his nickel toy
thy had more when they had less.

There in his bedroom, his family stood
each had a Christmas morn gift
he wondered, but how, how could
they be here to my soul uplift?

All had passed on, he alone had stayed
so how could this sweet vision be
had his sorrow this dream made
could this be his future he see?

Then a voice said, come with us Jim,
you have tarried here far too long
We are to take you on now, to him
leave that cold-bed, come right along.

    Smiling happily he saw,
sister had got her secondhand dress
and baby brother his nickel toy
thy had more when they had less.

The Night Rudolph And Santa's Sled Got Stuck

Twas' night before Christmas, Santa's sled was hard stuck
but Christmas was saved by farmer Ted's mule, Ole Buck.
Rudolph exhausted, his nose still shining bright red
reindeer pulling hard, could not free that heavy sled!

Bad blizzard had caught Santa and his famous team
Reindeer cried, fearing all was lost, so it would seem.
Rushing, Santa landed in a snowbank that night
his sled sinking deep, O' what a frightening sight!

Santa yelled, "Come on. We have to get this sled free
for all the world's children depend on you and me!"
An hour of pulling, and the reindeer felt great strain,
all to no avail, for not a foot could they gain!

Just then Rudolph broke down and let out a loud scream.
"Please, someone help us free dear Santa's Christmas team!"
Ole Buck heard the call through the blizzard's howling roar.
So to help, he kept braying at his master's door.

Farmer Ted bolted up! Ole Buck's screams he now heard.
Through fierce howling winds, he caught Rudolph's pleading words.
"Help, help! For the children and Christmas, set us free.
"All will be lost, no gifts will be under their tree!"

In a flash he reached the door. To the barn he raced
for to let Santa down now, he would be disgraced!
Ole Buck was ready and willing, eager to go.
Out they ran in the blizzard, wading in deep snow!

Round the bend, far away, upon the giant hill
they saw Santa's sunken sleigh, O' what a great thrill!
Once there, they heard the reindeer give a joyous cheer,
"Hurrah! Help is here, and Christmas is saved this year!"

With Ole Buck hitched fast to Santa's stuck Christmas sled,
Buck and the reindeer pulled, while Rudolph's nose glowed red.
Santa cried, "Free us! Deliveries we must make!
Free us this snowy Christmas night, for goodness sake!"

With a few grunts and groans, and a mighty strong yank
Santa's sled was freed, and they had Ole Buck to thank!
Farmer Ted gave all some warm chocolate to drink.
Buck, the mule was a hero. Who would ever think?

Santa gave them his blessings, thanking one and all.
"Off, now we must fly to finish Christmas Eve's haul"!
With that said and a hearty "Ho Ho Ho," goodbye,
away they rose, into a stormy snowing sky!

Farmer Ted walked good Ole Buck back to his red barn.
Many don't believe this was just a Christmas yarn.
But only 'til they go there and this do they find...
Sign Santa left, - " Here Ole Buck saved my fat behind!"

Christmas Tale, written in forty-four, 12 syllable verses

Note: I wrote this today, both for Christmas, all its eager children and for my son's eleventh birthday tomorrow.
Going to print it out and give it as another present to him that I so love with my all!!!
As I hope it is worthy enough to be read to and delight children and as well as the inner child still remaining in we adults too.
Some day, I may write the story of the hungry bear and my childhood berry picking tale,
with-" juicy berries everywhere"! that I told as a bedtime story to my beautiful daughter Kashaundra, two decades ago.

Back When Shadow, Death And Fate Had Their Little Talk

And of what tragic and early grave do you dare to speak
I am young and strong certainly not so old and weak?
The Shadow but smiled and said," but you'll soon be dead
being mortal, by my master Death that you all so dread"!
I am but the long Shadow of Death and your demise
you are a mere mortal, quite foolish and so unwise!

Astounded I replied, "Be off, you can not thus scare me"
I am young and strong, just as brave as brave can be!
Who the hell gave you authority to plague me so
now be off and away your dark arrogant ass go?
Shadow came in closer, laughing and dancing all about
I tell you when to go and shall come to take you out!

Now with buckets of youthful anger and vigor to such match
I threw an old shoe and commanded- "Shadow-boy, you go catch"
That seething insult brought promised curses galore
Shadow's epic rage gladden my soul and I laughed even more.
Then HE came from a dark corner, said, I hear you laugh at me
Shadow be gone, let me tell this upstart how his end will be!

Death himself spoke, " You are young and a fool mistakenly brave
when I come for you, not a damn thing can your worthless life save."
I laughed and said, "Ah, but Fate has you wrapped and tied
that is unless Fate's supreme authority you have just denied."
Death stammered, "Now, now young lad, I made no such claim
your wise and clever game will not on me lay such blame"!

But Fate had been listening all this long and deary time
Spoke saying to Death, "Be gone for he lives now on my dime"
Death grimacing took a low bow and said, "I'll be off now"!
I joined Fate and said, "yes you be off" and I did so with a scowl".
As Death whirled around, leaving us in one mighty roaring swish
he shot back," Ï'll get you lad and serve you up on a golden dish"!

Fate spoke, " You are young and seek to play a foolish game
but know this, I have great power, and Death and I are not the same"
Even mighty Death bows low to me until your time falls around
and is I that holds power until you sleep deep six in the ground.
I bowed low and said, "You I will tempt so often and O' so well
no worries unless you bow to Death and send me on early to Hell!

Fate spoke angrily and said, " Young lad, do not so try to riddle me
for my power can quite easily break and imprison thee."
Now brave young lad, "Be off with you, as I've had my say
I shall embrace thee, do as I please, each and everyday"
I smiled and said, " Wisdom dictates- No man can deny his Fate"
If you are trying to scare me, reality makes even you too late!

Fate smiled and said, "You intrigue me and we both shall now see
who has the greater power, you or the known invincible me"
I laughed and said, "Ha, even you must bow to Father Time
against he that I have yet to ever commit a serious crime".
Fate bellowed, "Now I know why Death left in such a flurry
may Father Time end you young lad and do so in a damn hurry"!

    Narrative

Note-- Recently edited/revised from an original 1974 poem I wrote after narrowing escaping death involving having a crazed
and insanely upset guy point a rifle at me from ten feet away and threaten to shoot me...
And his eyes told me that he truly meant it, as I saw his finger slip inside to land on the trigger while saying so! -Tyr

As I Remember You Mother, My Dearest Friend
(A Tribute To My Beloved Mother)

    Watching shadows melting away,
Sun racing into a dark void
Do I now dare this to thus say
    Death is why, darkness I now avoid;
    As red-sun's, waning rays fall
Soul and sad heart both grieve
Tho' sweet dawn's glory I recall
I know dark, has evil up its sleeve
As I sit frozen in my great fear:
My world screams pains so deep
That sound assaults my inner ear
And again from sorrows, I weep.
Hours fly by, moon brights its sky
Some relief in my veins now flow
Your love's touch felt, the reason why
    My wounded spirit this now knows;
    Tomorrow's sun will shine bright
Blue seas will wave and loud splash:
Through pain and dread of night
Hope is greater than your loss I rehash,
I feel the rays before they fall
And great warmth before it arrives
Once I had your love and stood tall
    As paradise was in both our lives;
Thus courage's true relief, sets again
Dark world's start holds less fear
As I remember you mother, my dearest friend.

    Robert J. Lindley, 1-21-2018

Written and dedicated to my beloved mother, that passed away
January 2017. Darkest day of my life and greatest loss I have ever known.

In Moments As Bright As A Crimson Rose

The fading hours, as Hope prevails
Moments bright as a crimson rose
Ships deliver Hope with full sails
Into needed lives that it chose
No matter those hard, rocky shores
Where broken souls, lay in deep pain
No longer kept are those old scores
Washed away are wicked dark stains

Nights come and shadows do not prowl
Nor wicked dreams dare sleep deny
Gone are the beasts that roar and howl
Under a dark moon's weeping sky
As the past gives up its sorrows
Heart finds a new cause to rejoice
New Life and Love seeds tomorrow
With pure joy in each singing voice

    Forever gone are bleeding eyes
cleansed by our new happier thoughts
Again sun lights up blue skies
This the blessed gift, Hope's lights brought
Once where utter darkness had reigned
Day and night both bring healing sights
All that was lost is now regained
Hope and Love shine forth brighter lights

It is not losses we must score
Nor pain and sorrows we endure
It is love of life and much more
In depths of souls that will be pure
Where new orchards we shall soon find
Growing crops that yield sweeter fruits
As we leave our past that so blinds
    Sight of our spiritual roots

What If, I Really Had Found You

If I cursed you would you even care
What if I love you and your dark black hair
If I nursed you, when so sick and sad
Would you forgive me being very bad?
If I kissed you, if even on a dare
What if I missed you, and your dark black hair?

If I caught you, stone-blind and unaware
Would you think of me as crude and unfair
Should I embrace you, with love and my all
Can you love me and answer this sweet call
If I soon found you, with my life to share
What if I had missed you and your black hair?

If I waited your hand, would you wait too
If love fated found us, could all come true
If Cupid fired well that true loving dart
Would you join me, there is room in this heart
Can we ever both love and be a pair
What if I had missed you and your black hair?

Virgin Pure, Untouched By Evil In Men

Where sun has fallen down in land so fair
hides a lone tombstone hidden in woods deep.
Death had caught a beauty so very fair,
that all three - Sun, sky and wind sadly weep.

Shining, in bloom of youth and quite carefree
she of the forest glen had Nature's love.
Her tender heart she had given to me,
now her heart and sweet soul rests far above.

Weeping willows, pond where white flowers thrive
I see her wading its magical scenes.
Dear mercy! If only she were alive
instead of buried there, in her late teens!

In night dreams, I see her in forested glen.
Virgin pure, untouched by evil in men.

An Angel, Fairy or Nymph Now In Human Form Collaboration with Keith O J Hunt

An Angel, Fairy Or Nymph Now In Human Form

Her exhilarating breath so quickened my heart,
her poise, I stood transfixed in overwhelming awe.
Gasping for air, as one does when lovers depart
begging that, "dear lover please return to me call".

Her Hellenic face, Shelly would have stood agape
her voice, Eliot would have simply called divine.
From her warmth and sincere charms, exists no escape
an angel, no less than a Byron would opine!

Was she a fairy, of Faust and the Niblong's Ring
born of dew, Nature's anticipating harvest?
Creature in human form devoid its silver wings?
Angel coming to give, we lost stragglers a rest?

Had she escaped from sunset's magnificent views
a savior tasked to this dark, gloomy earth now heal
Angel or saint earthbound walking in human shoes
would time and fate, her great mysteries soon reveal?

Rejoice this moment; heaven's gate standing agape,
    with all the angels in tow, and manna served hot;
Ripe as the wild earth wonders, swift as the eagle sage...
    these monolith moments come to touch earthly lot;

And split upon the shores and rocks with honeyed dews....
the flowered Lovers tip-toeing a full moon night
And Artemis --- how she doth shine in fairy-wood hues
    where in thy machinations it is for thee light;

For love and kindness does kiss my soul swift and soft
with her slender nymph stride to come and give me peace
And hope to kindle a secret fire held aloft
in her eyes, the stars doth twinkle love's endless sea

    A great sacrifice, she has given heaven's wile;
and descend this dark world to give a greater warm
    And in her lush pledges to me the heaven's smile;
(An angel, fairy or nymph in human form)

Has always been an honor for me to write with my friend Keith. As he writes in the Classicism/Romanticism style so very well.
His last stanza is a true and golden gem and I could not have even asked for better than the magnificent one that he wrote!
In my estimation, he is truly a great poet!!

Once A Wild Child, Playing Barefooted In Deep Snow

Until you have walked the hard path, felt its brutal cold
stopped believing this world, in it great lies being sold
do not ever step forth and dare try to ridicule me
for I am a seeding planted beneath Truth's great tree.

Taught from birth, Nature is far greater friend than foe
once a wild child playing barefooted, in deep snow
now a man that has lived with his eyes wide open
never deceived into being another blinded token.

Truth came in with my birth and Native American blood
later knowledge of Nature's gift like a raging flood
I sleep and dream of earth, virgin as once it stood
Yes, I would remove man's many stains if only I could.

Until you have walked the hard path, felt its brutal cold
Stopped believing this world, in it great lies being sold.

In This Olden Soul, A Fast Dancing Horse

In this olden soul, a fast dancing horse
lively one I now can not ride, of course.
Looking on this world, it races away
saddened by hidden darkness holding sway.

With echoing hoofs tapping stronger beats
I dream of my love between silken sheets.
Her long, pretty hair with its golden sheen
as I recall, fantasies of my teens.

Pounding of my heart when love's race is on
sorrowful stampede when my love has gone.
At such pain, horse speeds into the mists
I beat wailing walls, with my bloody fists.

In this olden soul, a fast dancing horse
its premature death, my greatest remorse.

Looking Back, I See That Was Hardest Blow

Cool waves flow across gentle waters blue
clouds and sky above, remind me of you.
In sweet dreams you memory haunts me still
once I loved you true and I always will.

In dreams, I see you in that soft blue dress
joy the nights, I recall your sweet caress.
I pray for your happiness in this life
my great mistake, not making you my wife.

That Fall, your family moved you away
was when my entire world turned ashen grey
Looking back, I see that was hardest blow
we not having, all we were meant to know.

Destiny oft is cruel and awful thing
with sad changes such misery can bring.
Your love-letters sent, each tear stain enhanced
we knew, we had each been truly romanced.

Cool waves flow across gentle waters blue
clouds and sky above, remind me of you.
In sweet dreams you memory haunts me still
once I loved you true and I always will.
