Light Did Shine From Her Smile, Such Grace

She graced all with her gentle ways
    she so loved to help the poor strays;
There resides softness in her voice
thinking well of all by first choice,
Light did shine from her smile, such grace
her good deeds, nothing can erase.

Was through winter snow that she came
    brought comfort with her just her name;
Now this abyss shows she is gone
    her admirers feel so alone,
Light did shIne from her smile, such grace
her good deeds, nothing can erase.

Set all with wonderment and awe
    her absence seems our greatest fall;
For now dawn comes in cold and dim
sorrows as in lost lover's film,
Light did shine from her smile, such grace
her good deeds, nothing can erase.

Spring's blessings saw her fly away
    its joys turned to deepest of grays;
From whence she came nobody knew
her leaving sent waves of deep blue,
Light did shine from her smile, such grace
her good deeds, nothing can erase.

O' yes we kneel, pray her return
    rekindling love's fires that burn;
Tho' Time answers not our sad plea
nor explains the why she did flee,
Light did shine from her smile, such grace
her good deeds, nothing can erase.

We beg our angel come again
    we are lost in a swirling spin;
We wonder why we were blessed
none of our sins had we confessed,
Light did shine from her smile, such grace
her good deeds, nothing can erase.

Now many decades have thus flown
    our love for her has only grown;
Some few say they have seen her light
as it brightened their darkest night,
Light did shine from her smile, such grace
her good deeds, nothing can erase.

She graced all with her gentle ways
    she so loved to help the poor strays;
There resides softness in her voice
thinking well of all by first choice,
Light did shine from her smile, such grace
her good deeds, nothing can erase.

Where Hides, Those Tyrian Sails So Longed For

Where hides, those Tyrian sails so longed for,
days lived far beyond this wretched, black door.
Can such bright fruits only be found in dreams,
are we condemned to one stagnant life-stream?

Sweeter days of youth knew not this sad gray,
    says memories of adventurous days.
Has Time thus so slowed our spirit and soul,
as to make us pay this sad, boring toll?

Could it just be, decay of flesh and blood,
holds and mires us in this destructive mud?
Washed into banks of a river now dried,
long before this weaken body has died?

As I look for answers in sky above
comes reply, " turn back thy heart to ALL love" !

Temptations That Too Oft Rule Dashing Youth

Visited by dark ghosts of a wayward youth
One can not avoid some terrible truth
Of blinded blindness and its epic pains
Horses racing, no rider at the reins!

That this old dark world celebrates sad facts
Of breaking sweethearts and misguided acts
When love's harvest tis bounty to be had
Youth's vigor, sees no harm in being bad.

Yet with years and wisdom comes wiser heart
Finding life has limits, then we depart
One may look back with deepest of regrets
Realizing one can not win all bets!

Visited by dark ghosts of a wayward youth
One can not avoid some terrible truth
Of blinded blindness and its epic pains
Horses racing no rider at the reins!

Wading In Soft Waves Of That Distant Shore

When dawn's light broke, her tears had not yet dried
Her sobs came back, echoes in howling winds
Was it a nightmare, had her lover died,
Was this tragedy how their true love ends?

He woke upon a long white sandy shore
His heart heard her pleading words from afar
Deep yearnings, to please, just touch her once more,
Gaze at Heaven and see her shining star.

Night fell, her broken heart did not dare rest
She knew that soon they would be reunited
Beautiful eyes closed, she began her quest,
Leave this world that was now sorrow blighted.

When dawn's light broke, there she was, his new bride
Wading in soft waves of that distant shore
A short trip, now both had taken that ride,
Winds blew, no more did her pleas they implore.

Red Sky Fire And Its Victims Left To Grieve

Massive shadow paled over scurrying ants on the ground
terror borne aloft, fire cursing beast riding across the skies
shimmering black and green scales, its armored sound
weeping shadows watched as victims echoed their cries.

From whence came this fire breathing creature and its hate
was this horror raven-called shades of Poe or mere dreads of Fate?

New dawn, victims yet cried, sending moans into the air
into day's light, its heavy silence, languishing fears
dead lying everywhere, village burnt far beyond repair
epic misery, all awash in buckets of sorrow's wettest tears.

From whence came this fire breathing creature and its hate
was this horror raven-called shades of Poe or mere dreads of Fate?

Alas! Even the ever faithful priest had been burned as well
ghastly fire-belching beast had sought he out first
women and children burned in this new unearthly Hell
how many more deaths to sate this dragon's massive thirst?

From whence came this fire breathing creature and its hate
was this horror raven-called shades of Poe or mere dreads of Fate?

From the mountain far away, fire belching from its snowy roof
thunderous rumbles, growls of demonic beastly throes
for this display of hellish agony was more than enough proof
as were the mourning survivors hiding in their dark holes.

From whence came this fire breathing creature and its hate
was this horror raven-called shades of Poe or mere dreads of Fate?

As We Imagine Gods, Venus And Mars

    Universe eternally unending
    expanding space infinity sending,
    vast emptiness, separating its stars
as we imagine gods, Venus and Mars.

Swirling in galaxies, churning cosmic dust
as puny man in his weak science trusts,
    magnitude, such ignorance truly awes
as if the universe awaits our calls.

We have such pride in our blindness and pains
calling shallow finds, our tremendous gains,
truth speaks, things we can never overcome
as universe sends its eternal hum.

    Universe eternally unending
    expanding space infinity sending,
    vast emptiness, separating its stars
as we imagine gods, Venus and Mars.

Youth, Life, Love And Its Most Precious All

When young, life was full of joy and great thrills
I recall that was how happiness feels,
a new toy a trip to the nearby park
birds singing, magical flight of a stark.
Ice cream served on a sweltering hot day
out of classroom watching a new school play,
Majestic day fishing, feet in the pond
our favorite movies, we were so fond!

Growing up, tremendous change had to come
too oft heartache became the rule of thumb,
Love gave its kiss and even sorrow too
in its realm, sweetest of desserts were new.
With such beauty and deep satisfaction
    sometimes came the opposite reaction
truest of our sweet love, was denied-rejected
in pain hurt, we felt our soul was neglected!

In living through life, its good* and its bad
if wise, we could find depth of what we had,
love and sorrow are both needed to grow
happiness found, oft sorrow comes in tow.
Treasures great and small are in youthful past
best we embrace it and not run too fast
Through it all family, love matters most
without that, time was no more than burnt toast!

Note: On July 10th, 1978, a most beautiful and very precious soul that I loved so very true and deeply died in a car crash. Her death almost completely destroyed me and this is the first time I have ever mustered up the courage to write a poem about it. She was its " good *", - its greatest beauty* at that time in my life, its most - precious all*....
For 40 long years, I could not find the courage to sit to write this tribute to the memory of her sweet and kind soul.
I have now found such, because "family and love matters most", and I am now truly blessed with such a God given gift....

Find The Waiting Light And Redemption's Well Lit Path

Ride not that raging bull, horns poisoned to the tips
    your heart armored against all that would inflict pain;
such soul warping feeds on the venom as it drips,
as blindness leads until only hatred remains!

Stop! Let what little shreds of hidden light exist
    expand in your weeping and crying heart then heal;
with that smallest of sparks, your lost soul must resist
greatest hate and sorrows that leads you to not feel!

As each glowing new dawn, then grows your new birthed love
    your eyes will open to joy's softest touch and tears;
you may again, see Light cast from Heavens above,
find that redemption's path, destroys all hate and fears!

When glorious Light renews heart, love and its sight
such pure joy comes from Heaven, not hatred's dark might.

Allow The Dawn To Wake Us

I would write words for you, dipped in beauty and gold
    my heart would burst for you, if it were just that bold;
with you, our romance cries out, for an eight day week
with you, I have found the truest of deep love I seek.

Walk with me, to paradise its bright singing birds
    Talk to me, your voice sends golden, beautiful words;
stay this night, let our two souls and pure hearts entwine
allow dawn to wake us, let our loving hours shine.

Love does flow with heat for you from my melted heart
honey dipped allure your ambrosia does impart,
time together precious as racing pulse does chime
in amaranthine night of purple passion prime.

Basking in our luscious love lush and heaven-sent
    rousing first blush bathes us embraced in our content;
sunrise spreads ardent reds blessing our love story
dawning dew thrills the bloom of our morning glory.

Soul Searching Trek Along Winter's Snow Painted Trails

Waking to cold blown tent, ground frozen icy hard
woods are my love, as is poetry to a bard.
Today starts my anticipated forest trek,
seeking salvation from heart's emotional wreck,
last night I watched stars twinkle in heavenly skies
pondering how to overcome world's darkest lies.

Now dawn breaks, sends fresher pair of gem seeking eyes
desirous to find what Time, Fate and Earth denies,
finding cold breeze that blows snowflakes from white cream ground,
thankful for Nature's sanctuary here now found.
First step taken, this soul takes its desperate flight,
embrace anew, treasures that make life feel alright.

Through drifted powdered paths my healing does begin
rhythm of my brisk breath is like a cleansing hymn.
Serenity in solitude is what I seek,
in contemplative meditations I do speak
amongst the frosted firs a chapel for my prayers
in your Trust surrendering all worries and tears.

To slow life’s commotion and hush harsh emotion,
quiet communion in woodland is my potion -
sweetest swells of ecstasy makes my spirit swoon
in whitest snowdrop bloom my heart will follow soon.
With every snowy step I purify a thought
in this pristine Love I find absolution sought.

The winding trail I followed with a downcast face
and left behind the sorrow of my past disgrace.
Ascending farther to the snowy mountains peak
animated to discover my fate unique.
I shall not let my courage waver, not this time,
with weary steps I continue my forward climb.

The final steps to reach my summits divine light,
my mind virtuous as snowflakes of purest white,
I inhale the essence of life at nature’s hem,
finally free from chains of torment I condemn.
With Fate and Time to blend with Earth, I shall redeem
my dignity and recover my self-esteem.

Poet's note: It was with great and deep pleasure that we three poets joined together to compose this poem. As our hearts and minds united to bring a harvest of beauty, treasures and soul finding solace within a journey through Nature's garden and its soul soothing solitude, covered in whitest of snowflakes and heart's seeking desires.
My heartfelt thanks goes to my two wonderful and awesomely talented co-writers, Susan Ashley and Teppo Gren. To have the true honor of creating with such dear friends is a blessing indeed!

Once I Found, Once I Woke, Once Love Came

Once I found, that darken cave to hide in
Having no true friends to then confide in
I sank each rowboat I took a ride in
Embraced scenes of glory I took pride in
Created dream realms that I then died in

Once I woke, I found sweet clouds to walk on
In that bliss, found dear subjects to talk on
Enter tirades that my mind could squawk on
Became a fool that they put their mock on
A broken sidewalk no child put chalk on.

Once love came, I grabbed its heart to hold to
Soon begged its soft hands, to be sold to
Sought sweet times, deeper soul to be told to
Conquer enemies, others be bold to
Find havens that could quickly be rode to.

In Admiration For The Bright Red Rose

What would a rose be without each sharp thorn
easily from sweet mother earth thus torn,
at the mercy of Nature's hungry jaws
tender roots dug from the soil by long claws.

Would we miss such beauty if never seen
perish that sad thought, such would be obscene,
if dawn's rays did not light rose garden's glow
would be as if black was color of snow!

What sorrow if my Love, my lady so fair
had no beautiful red rose in her hair,
if deep romance, rose did not represent
may we proclaim its beauty heaven sent?

How sweet it is, to our Love give a rose.
Say, your great beauty flows from head to toes!

In Whispering Mists, Dying Gods There Grieve

Within Shadows casting in forth blackened glow,
secret havens hide in heaps of aged dust,
there beastly beasts born and wickedly grow
far beneath a granite hardened evil crust.

Within corridors in ancient temples Time waits
for the golden winds of Loves renewed trust
sealed up fast and tight, their heavy gates,
holding back those deaths found to be unjust.

In whispering mists, dying Gods there grieve
there time now sadly wasted and ill spent
sifting Love's gems through golden sieves,
they see far too late, what human Life truly meant.

What of legendary Gods, did such beings ever exist
oft descending to earth to wreck havoc there
or in Hades pits cast all, their divine powers did resist,
the glories of faithful worship they deemed fair.

Within Shadows casting in forth blackened glow,
secret havens hide in heaps of aged dust,
there beastly beasts born and wickedly grow
far beneath a granite hardened evil crust.

    A Sweet Child's Untimely Death

Windswept leaves blown upon abandoned house doorstep
there rests in peace, as if morning mail.
Driveway empty aside from an old red broken tricycle, remnants from the last family and the death of their child.
Alas, Fate created this lonely and tragic scene, with its sorrows now flown far away.
Chill breeze attacks the trees as if to say, sorrows are here and her they will stay,
for their child exists no more.
Exists no more, echoing savagely - she exists no more!
A sweet child's untimely death. Reality's naked and almost unbearable truth.

Achilles, His Heart and Soul Were Mortal
    (Part One)

    Robert J. Lindley, 8-04- 2018
    Rhyme (Mythology, Great Tales)

    Notes-
    1. Achilles*: - (Of Troy fame*)
Achilles, in Greek mythology, son of the mortal Peleus, king of the Myrmidons, and the Nereid, or sea nymph, Thetis. Achilles was the bravest, handsomest, and greatest warrior of the army of Agamemnon in the Trojan War. According to Homer, Achilles was brought up by his mother at Phthia with his cousin and inseparable companion Patroclus. One of the non-Homeric tales of his childhood relates that Thetis dipped Achilles in the waters of the River Styx, by which means he became invulnerable, except for the part of his heel by which she held him—the proverbial “Achilles’ heel.”

    2. (Achilles) father*: - Peleus - Peleus, a figure from Greek mythology, is best known as the father of the Greek hero Achilles* and the husband of the sea nymph Thetis. As a youth, Peleus was banished from his homeland after he killed one of his brothers. Peleus suffered misfortune everywhere he went and fled from two kingdoms during his life.
Zeus* himself arranged for Peleus to marry Thetis. Zeus loved Thetis, but he decided to abandon his courtship when he learned that the fates had declared that Thetis's son would become more powerful than his father. After marrying Peleus, Thetis bore him a son named Achilles. She tried to make the infant immortal by holding him in fire to burn away his human weakness. Peleus, however, was horrified and stopped Thetis, leaving Achilles' heel vulnerable. Angered, Thetis abandoned her family and returned to the sea.

nymph minor goddess of nature, usually represented as young and beautiful
    immortal able to live forever
Peleus became king of Phthia, but he was overthrown by his enemies when Achilles left for the Trojan Warf. Thetis took pity on Peleus and brought him back to her sea cave, where they lived together forever.

3.. (Achilles) mother*:- Thetis his mother, was the immortal Nereid Thetis, Thetis attempted to render her son Achilles invulnerable. In the well-known version, she dipped him in the River Styx, holding him by one heel, which remained vulnerable. In an early and less popular version of the story, Thetis anointed the boy in ambrosia and put him on top of a fire to burn away the mortal parts of his body. She was interrupted by Peleus and she abandoned both father and son in a rage, leaving his heel vulnerable. A nearly identical story is told by Plutarch, in his On Isis and Osiris, of the goddess Isis burning away the mortality of Prince Maneros of Byblos, son of Queen Astarte, and being likewise interrupted before completing the process. Later on in life, Achilles is killed by Paris when he is shot in his vulnerable spot, the heel. This is where the term "Achilles' heel" is derived from.

    5. Charon*:
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article is about the mythological figure. For the moon of Pluto, see Charon (moon). For other uses, see Charon (disambiguation).

Attic red-figure lekythos attributed to the Tymbos painter showing Charon welcoming a soul into his boat, c. 500-450 BC
In Greek mythology, Charon or Kharon (/'k??r?n, -?n/; Greek Χ?ρων) is the ferryman of Hades who carries souls of the newly deceased across the rivers Styx and Acheron that divided the world of the living from the world of the dead. A coin to pay Charon for passage, usually an obolus or danake, was sometimes placed in or on the mouth of a dead person.[1] Some authors say that those who could not pay the fee, or those whose bodies were left unburied, had to wander the shores for one hundred years. In the catabasis mytheme, heroes – such as Aeneas, Dionysus, Heracles, Hermes, Odysseus, Orpheus, Pirithous, Psyche, Theseus and Sisyphus – journey to the underworld and return, still alive, conveyed by the boat of Charon.

    6. Styx*": From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    "River Styx"
The waters of one Styx in the Aroanian mountains
In Greek mythology, Styx (/'st?ks/; Ancient Greek: Στ?ξ [stýk?s][citation needed]) is a deity and a river that forms the boundary between Earth and the Underworld, often called "Hades" which is also the name of its ruler. The rivers Styx, Phlegethon, Acheron, Lethe, and Cocytus supposedly all converge at the center of the underworld on a great marsh, which sometimes is also called the Styx. According to Herodotus, the river Styx originates near Feneos.[1] Styx is also a goddess with prehistoric roots in Greek mythology as a daughter of Tethys, after whom the river is named and because of whom it had miraculous powers.

    7. Hades*: In Greek mythology, Hades was regarded as the oldest son of Cronus and Rhea, although the last son regurgitated by his father.[2] He and his brothers Zeus and Poseidon defeated their father's generation of gods, the Titans, and claimed rulership over the cosmos. Hades received the underworld, Zeus the sky, and Poseidon the sea, with the solid earth—long the province of Gaia—available to all three concurrently. Hades was often portrayed with his three-headed guard dog Cerberus.

The Etruscan god Aita and Roman gods Dis Pater and Orcus were eventually taken as equivalent to the Greek Hades and merged as Pluto, a Latinization of his euphemistic Greek name Plouton (Greek: Πλο?των Ploúton).[3]

Achilles, His Heart and Soul Were Mortal
    Part One- (Years Before Troy)

Achilles* woke, his slain foes calling out his name
hearing merciless woes, his sharpen sword they blame
looking at the heavens he saw the moon glowing blood red
sending its message of truth about his victims now dead!

Rising from night bed, screams from those slain still ringing
he knew much more torment they would be bringing
there was darkness in his soul that, nothing could ever tame
his father* had made death and destruction his only game!

Small was the solace that, mortal men praised his deeds
how in fiercest battles he makes his victims bleed
dispatching each to Charon* for that final dark boat trip
on river Styx, to Hades pain hides in each thirsty sip!

As pitiful dead faces come through bloody halls
louder and louder heard are their dark cursing calls
those words become deep stabbing daggers and his heart is pained
he realizes, worthless value of great fame he has gained!

Asking mother Thetis* why she gave this curse
sincerely proclaiming that, nothing could be worse
To Peleus* his father, he in tears begins to speak
begging for mercy and the love he forever there seeks!

He not knowing, Fate had demanded his half-god birth
destiny's reasons hidden, he pondered life's worth
asking why could not Apollo*, his suffering now ease
not seeing, even mighty gods can not do as they please!

As silence grew louder, his soul already hurt
he saw dying faces falling on bloodstained dirt
As voices and bloody shadows sank back into stone wall
his heart and soul's in memory, stored every cursing call!

Seeing now, last vestiges of heavenly lights
Achilles took time to remember all his fights
soon begging for dawn, its soothing lights his pained soul relieved
away washed curses of those that had cause to be aggrieved.

Rising to meet bright sun and dawn's glistening beams
he felt its deep gifting warmth and Hope that redeems
Fate and Destiny granted this warrior another day
on this mortal plain, for now, his half-god body would stay.

    Achilles, The Journey To Troy,
(Part Two) of (Part One-titled, Achilles, His Heart and Soul Were Mortal)

Woe! wretched horrors Olympic gods sent that day
mighty king suffered his treasure stolen away
power of Troy against strongest of Grecian might
testing magnificent force of great Spartan fight!

Saving proud Greek honor was the summoning call
an arrogant king demanded Troy's suffering fall
swift as Hermes, to warriors, messengers sent
his request answered, they came in flooding torrents.

As Grecian phalanx were boarding its warring ships
strong was the question upon the warriors lips
Achilles! Achilles! Will our fight he now join
for he answers not to kings selfish whims or coins

Roaring loud happy cheers as his ships sails were seen
warriors, certain victories plunders they'd glean
his godlike bearing seen at warships splashing prow
for not even Troy's massive walls could stop them now!

Soon Troy's riches they would gather with bloody hands
slaughter its haughty citizens burn its rich lands
steal its power and gold, take its women as slaves
for its sins cast its rabble into early graves!

With sacrifices made to Aires they could not fail
the gods had sent favoring winds to fill their sails
Poseidon. rewarded faithful kings, gave their due
they sailed on with pride of warriors and ships crew.

Eager to land and fight battles for glory's sake
to the Olympic gods they prayed their lives not take
gift them courage and hone well their slashing sharp blades
allow the joys of victor's homecoming parades.

Dawn's rays saw Achille's ship surging far ahead
he had his prowess and dark blood-lust to be fed
In his heart he knew this battle would be his last
glory and fame taken would set the world aghast!

As night fell, they knew new day's light, would blood-lust sate
they each sought to placate dark master of their Fate
with prayers and incense to burn throughout dark of night
each prepared for this the greatest of all their fights!
