Between Hopeless Groans And Epic Sorrows

Living mad, sad, broken and overwrought
dragging rusty chains, in misery caught.
Praying anew, through, true heart wrenching woes
fighting this wicked world where anything goes.

No time to feel, chill, heal slow bleeding
on blinded feasts so many are feeding.
One cut birthing more, sunrise to sunset
despair thinking, never better it gets.

Can not, rush, hush, brush, these sorrows away
best any light gives is faint feeble grey.
In between fallen down, doing without
pray for you, if you know what its about.

Living mad, no time to feel, can not hold
hope for relief before I am too old.

    Robert J. Lindley, (original composition, 2- 23-1978)
Sonnet, ( When Destiny, Sends Its Darkest Dark-Storms)

As I Walk Hard Narrow Path, Dust In My Mouth

I walk hard narrow path, dust in my mouth
Just a poor farm-boy, born in the dear South,
With edges slippery and turns so quick
Oft so weary, too often so damn sick.

Trudging on through, into midnight's dark cast
Praying my courage will forever last,
And in my dreams, I meet my angel here
She of sweetest heart and devoid of fear.

Each new sunset , I watch those red-burnt rays
Muttering words, as only poor boy prays,
In wind's soft blows, I hear, "patience rewards"
Step thee lively, avoid the broken shards!

I walk hard narrow path, dust in my mouth
Just a poor farm-boy, born in the dear South.

Set I This Poetry Task, This Fine Morn

Set I, task to write about this cruel world's starkness
not so easy, for its true depths are wide and massive
Yet we, view evil world with light cast into the darkness
of poverty, starvation, and reactions far too passive!

SET I, TIME TO BEND MY PEN TO THIS IMPORTANT TASK
lay out a few words of love's enlightened hope
For to learn, to heal, we must first see to dare to ask
why this darkness invades, into every horoscope!

I found, Truth and Love to be the two golden keys
REALITY PROVES ONE MUST EXIST WITH THE OTHER
We may be lost fish swimming in storming black seas
yet always, we may look back to find the Love of Mother!

Set I, clear goal to write a few words as a gift to all
before my waiting soul, hears its final greatest call!

    Robert J. Lindley,
Sonnet- Triples, ( From Magnificent Book of Fate and Life As Was Once Lived )

Notes- I after having been ill these last several days,
decided to compose a bit during my recuperative break.
At first, I wrote a long and dark poem that yet again honors
Edgar Allan Poe. Still revising that one. Halted. Then
decided to do a Sonnet Triple as a challenge to myself.
Having fine tuned it, decided to post it before the dark,
and still in progress- Poe-like tribute poem.

Crimson Waves Flow, As From A Red Rose,
    (From Sonnet Triples)

In Time, its eternally winding winds
therein flows a grace not to be denied
Earth, Mother Nature, oft man's truest of friends
are tears of joy when in purest Love cried!

Crimson waves flowing as from a red rose
as a brave seeker his true love thus finds
she, rare beauty from head to dainty toes
loving in return sets Love chains that bind!

    Together, bonded as romantic pair
soon days and nights become one joyous blur
she a graceful goddess with Raven hair
he handsome prince, sworn to never leave her!

Mother Nature, Spring's new to all given
weds in bliss, true-love and happy livin'!

Eternity, Its Scope, Life Its Great Game

Consider the Vessel of Hope, its Flame
Eternity, its scope, Life its great game
    Imagination, fairies dancing, trees
Love, sweet romancing, the birds and the bees.

Consider the Season, Spring- Life's new rains
Sensuality, its breath, birth- its pains
Youth, its brevity, Time its flowing winds
Passion, deep longings, what future portends.

Consider the End, darkness, all thats gone
Mere Words, written on slab of cold, hard stone
Sorrow and Loss, finality- the Grave
Truth and Light, mercy, faith that truly Saves.

Consider the Vessel of Hope, its Flame.
Eternity, its scope, Life its great game.

    Robert J. Lindley,
Sonnet- Triples, ( From Magnificent Book of Fate and Life )

Alas, Such Is Mystery That Awaits

Beneath the rainbow, its treasures so hide
for most of life is a great and wild ride
yet within dashing days, some loss awaits
little is gained, if one too oft tempts Fate.

In our daily walks, temptation abides
from darken traps, we must close seeking eyes
with illuminated truth, search for more
dare to sail, land on paradise sweet shores.

When adversity, both heart and soul breaks
could it be a testing, that our tree shakes
shall we, in despair- curse this given life
or courage, battle world's usual strife?

Alas! Such is mystery that awaits
As we but dwell firm, within Hands of Fate.

Thanking Heavens Above For Your Every Breath

Walking a most fine line betwixt and between life and death
thanking Heavens above for your every breath,
myself, my heart, my soul- and my passion aflame
your gasping sighs, your kiss, prove our Love is no game.
Love's truth in the minutes, the hours, the blissful days
beauty within your most tender and graceful ways,
pure honey sweetness of waking at dawn with you
satisfaction with life, true love given we two.
Within greatest ecstasy that your soft touch brings
in that moment, that epic joy - this grateful heart sings
both sun and sky smile upon such a wedded pair
I thank God, in joining we both treasure and share!

Walking a most fine line betwixt and between Life and Death.
Thanking Heavens above for your every breath!

Sonnet, ( Romanticism, Searching for Love's Holy Grail )

    Old Note-- July 12th 1973
May this note , this letter stir the flames in your heart
With the prayer that Love never allows us to part
That vow we both swore and Life we now each hour, each day live.
Bears passionate embraces and gems born that we each other give.

    New Note: May, 7th, 2020
This from the graveyard of youthful love
From the memory of what Life often brings about
That what is soul deep may yet prematurely perish
And we may fail to hold on to that which we most cherish..

Here In The Now, Amidst Fleeing Of Twilight

Here in the now, amidst the pale twilight
that fleeting moment, - dying of the night
that most precious air, - dying of the light
cometh, morn's breath, - its beautiful new sight.

Here in the now, within mind's newest eye
that pondering thought, - let my spirit fly
that exquisite joy, - sweetest tears I cry
cometh, renewed hope, - truth I'll not deny.

Here in the now, as that whisper so thrills
that divine promise, - love needing no pills
that merciful vow, - relief from world's ills
cometh, beautiful truth, - love over-spills.

Here in the now, amidst fleeing of twilight
That stirring moment, - waking God's divine might.

Poem born from a dream last night
awakening to a day so bright
as twilight's new rays therein gift,
    sweet poetic words to uplift,
heart and soul into joyous praise
relief was born from dark malaise.

You've been doing some nice and contemplative writing lately, Robert. Really nice.

Inspiration, Revelation, Adaptation, Within Poetic Verse

    Sonnet I

I saw morn's soft hands stretching to touch bright moonlight
Tis but a fleeting blink betwixt man's death and birth
Dark unknowing is why we so oft fear the night
In that abject blindness, fail to see life's true worth
Alas! Such are sorrows of mankind's constant plight
    That feeds malignant swellings of darkness on earth;
Those of ancient times, of distant long dead yesterdays
Will one day from that deepest of slumbers arise
Long hidden from flown days and nights, world's weeping grays
Be reborn with no thoughts of world's previous lies.
As earth spins, sounding its constant evolving beats
We blind to light's truth, continue our foolish acts
Racing onward counting our coins and useless feats
Life came from light's truth, not so-called man-made facts.

    Sonnet II

I that thought to profit, see beyond mortal veil
Having never measured truest rectitude of life
In my epic quest, the highest of mountains scale
In youth, blind to sad flowing storms of mortal strife
Alas! We that in our darkness refuse to see
Oft face raging storms that seem to forever swirl
Not realizing, Love's blessings are given free
To counter lightning bolts world's malevolence hurls.
I that foolishly thought to defeat that we die
Later learned truth that our vanity denies
We are lost because we believe world's greatest lie
That we were once roaming beasts beneath earthen skies
By our own greatness became gods of divine might
Free to do as we please, revel in our delights.

    Sonnet III

In June, when wondering winds our hearts so lighten
I have found eager bubbling brooks streaming along
Summer's morn setting up to day gaily brighten
Nature gifting beauty, songbirds gifting sweet song
Across flowering meadows, busy bees flying
Life many treasures so beautifully sharing
Time to live, not sadly ponder mortal dying
For truest of joy depends on our loving caring
There rests much more happiness in sincere kindness
And sweeter breath within Love's soft touch inspiring
Eyes to truly see, welcome defeat of blindness
Rather than worldly conflicts and daily sparring
To satisfy our fleshly dreams and dark desires
Lets embrace light's divine truth that never expires.
