Elizabeth Warren endorses reparations for slavery

Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren announced her support for slavery reparations for black Americans, according to a report from The New York Times on Thursday.

The 2020 presidential candidate became the rare politician to endorse the proposal, which is estimated to cost trillions of dollars. Warren endorsed the proposal, but did not explain how she would pay for it, or give any additional details.

“We have to be honest that people in this country do not start from the same place or have access to the same opportunities,” Warren told The Times. “I’m serious about taking an approach that would change policies and structures and make real investments in black communities.”

Earlier this month, one of Warren’s Democratic primary opponents, Sen. Kamala Harris of California, said she supports “some type of” reparations. The two senators’ recent statements signal a shift left on this issue for prospective Democratic contenders. Both Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and former President Barack Obama have both come out against the idea of slavery reparations.

Recent polling has shown Warren trailing other leading Democratic primary contenders, including Sanders and Harris.

Slavery saved Blacks from starvation and savagery. Americans, especially Conservatives, have nothing to apologize for. My parents came here (legally) from Italy in 1955 .... 90 years after the Civil War ended

(They also became citizens, paid taxes, assimilated, learned English... and had jobs, and never broke the law...but that’s another topic)

While slavery was an institution in this country, my ancestors were dirt poor peasants trying to keep body and soul together in the Italian countryside.

I can assure you that neither I nor any of my ancestors owned slaves.

So, if Elizabeth Warren thinks we should pay reparations for slavery, I think me and my family’s share is $0.00. We don’t owe anybody anything. Pocahontas Warren and Kamala Harris can both go jump in a lake.

Let’s factor in the taxes I’ve paid since 1978... of which at least $100K was for food stamps, welfare, and other social programs benefitting blacks....

Likewise, My family probably paid an additional $250K since 1955 for the same programs that benefit blacks....

So the way I see it, me and my family are entitled to reparations from black people...

Tell them to send the checks to me and my family by the end of the month

While they’re at it, they can pay back the 5 Trillion dollars that the American Taxpayer spent since 1965 on the War On Poverty which also benefitted them

My mom's family came from what was now Germany in the 1700's.
Family tree was lost prior to the Revolution. We have one Seneca woman
in the family tree.
My Dad's from Austria in 1898.
Dad's is solid.

Actually, I am good with "reparations" on the condition that if a person signs up to receive reparations, they are automatically sent back to where ever the majority of their DNA says they come from....

I’ve said this before, but if this happens, then the descendants of anyone who fought for the Union in the Civil War should get reparations. Every descendant. Whether that soldier was wounded, killed, or went home intact. Who knows what they could have accomplished financially if they could have stayed home and tended the farm, kept both legs and arms, etc. If we are going to go back in time to determine what people deserve, let’s do it for everyone.
