    Default Big Furry Moth...

Walked out the back door this morning and this guy is on my patio. He/she didn't care how close I got with the camera so I took a couple macro shots. I don't think it's dead, but I'll see if it moves later. What a spectacular, big ole furry moth... I think it's a Polyphemus moth.

Well it's gone. No pieces or remains from a critter making a meal of it, so I'm assuming it warmed up a bit and flew away.

I'm with Abs on this one, that thing is all kinds of hairy and creepy looking. Who know what we don't know, that thing can be a mix of a moth and a deadly spider. Don't take chances and just hit it with a flame thrower next time.

I thought so too, the six hairy legs, but, after I studied it for awhile, I actually thought it was kinda cute...

I love the huge, leaf like antennae.

So bizarre ... looks photo shopped. Really cool though. The antannae really looks wierd but fascinating. Good camera work. You should publish on foap.com.

We have tarantula wasps that lay eggs on tarantulas after they paralyze it. Larvae feeds off tarantula while its still alive. Your photo looks like what I imagine in nightmare of coming across wasps feeding on tarantula. However, this is what it really looks like.

Good eye @SassyLady I have Adobe Photoshop CS5, 64 bit, which is arguably one of the best photo editing programs ever made, and I did use it to touch the pics up a bit. I cropped them first, then added a little brightness and contrast to one, and a little bit of saturation to both, but that's it. I got the CS5 from my son, who got an Assoc. Degree in Graphic Arts and that's what they used in school. No money in G.A. though, so he got his B.A. in IT/Networking. Now he's got a great job and loves it, and I still love the Adobe Photoshop CS5...

Thanks man, that's my little, getting old, Canon SX-280HS with 12.1Mpx. I'd love to buy a new Canon but, too many other irons in the fire working on the property since it warmed up. I did have that huge Canon 7D MarkII, but that camera was so dang complicated you needed a course in how to operate it. I figured out the basics but wow, that was only scratching the surface. I'd like to buy the new Canon Powershot G7 X MarkII. Small enough to put in your pocket but has many of the features that the higher end digital SLR's and mirrorless have. That camera is basically the new, updated, upgraded version of what I have.

What have you been using for those spectacular pics you've been posting?

8.2Mpx Canon 1DMarkII N, built in 2004. Those were taken with a Sigma 17-35f/1.8 lens.

Sweet, and yeah I forgot to mention, the cost of new lenses for a big SLR is daunting as well.

    My Siggy is about $600.

Camera body can be found for a few hundred though, but I paid $1400 in 2009. Retail was $3999.

Now be honest... do you know what EVERY FEATURE on that camera does? ...
