Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, at 86, dreams of serving many more years
USA TODAY Richard Wolf,USA TODAY Wed, Jul 24 6:43 AM CDT

WASHINGTON – Supreme Court Associate Justice and liberal icon Ruth Bader Ginsburg has a message for friends and foes alike: She hopes to serve many more years.

At 86, Ginsburg delivered one of the eulogies Tuesday for her former colleague, John Paul Stevens, the second oldest and third longest-serving Supreme Court justice in history. In it, she recalled telling Stevens on a recent trip to Portugal, "My dream is to remain on the court as long as you did."

"His immediate response: 'Stay longer!'" Ginsburg recounted.

Stevens served more than 34 years, retiring in 2010 at the ripe old age of 90. He died last week at age 99.

Ginsburg came to the court 18 years after Stevens and has served for 26 years, eight short of Stevens' mark. She is four years younger than he was upon retirement and has survived three bouts with cancer.

Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was the last justice to leave a private ceremony in the Great Hall of the Supreme Court Monday where the late Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens lay in repose.

In an interview with National Public Radio, the leader of the court's liberal wing was reminded that liberals worry about her health declining. Were Ginsburg to leave the court during Donald Trump's presidency, conservatives could grow their majority to 6-3.

Her response? "I am very much alive."

But Ginsburg did have a warning for Democrats in her NPR interview: She poured cold water on the idea, promoted by liberal interest groups, of adding additional seats to the high court to dilute conservatives' majority. That's something President Franklin Delano Roosevelt tried in 1937 without success.

“I have heard that there are some people on the Democratic side who would like to increase the number of judges," she said. “I am not at all in favor of that solution."
A damn crying shame that this piece of shit liberal, anti-constitution worthless ffing dem scum does just go on and bite the bullet, head on
---down---, to meet her maker in my opinion.
As such would be a true blessing for this nation....
She is living proof that evil never rests..
Wants to stay longer in order to help her beloved liberal/socialist agenda!! --Tyr

She did try to knock back the many liberals idea of 'court packing,' saying 9 is a good number.'

    https://thehill.com/regulation/45446...court-justices

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Tuesday dismissed proposals to pack the court and put term limits on justices, two controversial ideas for reforming the Supreme Court.
"Nine seems to be a good number. It's been that way for a long time," Ginsburg said, speaking to NPR.

Former Attorney General Eric Holder and 2020 Democratic candidates like South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg and former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke have recently elevated the idea of expanding the court beyond nine justices.

"I think it was a bad idea when President Franklin Roosevelt tried to pack the court," Ginsburg noted.

In 1937, Roosevelt proposed expanding the court to as many as 15 judges in a plan that was delayed by a Senate committee. At the time it was speculated that Roosevelt's proposal put political pressure on the justices in cases before the court.

Ginsburg in the interview also dismissed the idea of term limits for justices, a concept that gained renewed bipartisan interest late last year amid concerns over the health of older justices.

"Our Constitution is powerfully hard to amend," Ginsburg said, noting it calls for life terms for federal judges.

I think she deserves some respect regardless of her misguided politics. She is very bright, and took care of her husband when he was ill, for two things. And I doubt Scalia would have befriended a jerk.

As for her wanting to stay more years, “Man plans, God laughs”.

    Yeap, you're right, as usual.

She does dese..... She earned it I suppose. Me disagreeing shouldn't change that.

But she'll stay in there until she's 122 and brain dead for 20 years before they wheel her outta there. Hell, the Dems are liable to play a little 'Weekend at Bernie's' and bring 'ol Ruth to his home as well!

Nope, fuck her. I don't care about her politics. I care that she hasn't kept her position as a Supreme Court Justice apolitical as she swore to when taking the job. The sooner she dies, the better.

But her life was exemplary if you agreed with all she did since birth. But we more than disagree with her horrid decisions at times. And she has judged based on her opinions and has mostly made believe that the Constitution of the United States = simply never existed.

And she will die eventually. And she may even chime in on the SC with more liberal decisions. But not much different than a new liberal like Kagan doing the same. The opinions of blowhards, but the vote is what matters.

So while I hate her and agree with all you say, I'll defer and say this much - I refuse to fawn over her. I will respect her by trying my best to avoid insulting, when I can shred her apart with facts.

Me too! I rarely agree with her rulings, but she certainly does not seem like a bad person. So many on both sides scream, "Respect the office, if not the person," but they rarely do when they disagree with the person.

It's why I try, not always succeed, to deal with some civility regarding an officeholder, regardless if I voted for or like them in general.

I give none of them a pass that support and enable the murder of over 50 million innocent babies.
Hence my comment about her serving her master--Satan, and her heading down to hell when she dies..
Which can not be soon enough for me..
I may be hard but I am fair-- not a damn thing constitutional about being allowed to murder innocent babies before they take their first breath and before they officially are recorded as citizens of this nation.
I save my sympathy/empathy/compassion for deserving souls of which that ffing liberal, baby-murdering scum is not and
    never will be, my friend......
As they cry how we need millions of illegals to do those jobs, etc,(because of our baby-boom aging population) -- while they ignore 50 million babies that would made sure that need ever was..
I'll not give her an ounce of respect,, no ma'am not not me , not ever! --Tyr

You know, I really answered quickly and didn't think it through entirely. I didn't even think of abortions in my head.

And you're correct, it sure is difficult to look past such actions for SO SO long that they continue to ignore and continue to go about business in - killing as a primary way of finding 'personal responsibility'. And that is SHAMEFUL. And I believe they will have to answer to someone a LOT LOT higher than myself. In the mean time, I don't have to like her/them, I don't have to watch them, listen to them or truly have an ounce of respect for her or any of them. All I'll do is try to remember that they'll be judged, whether they like it or not or believe it or not. It's far too difficult to wiggle one's way out of killing babies, at any cost for any reason. So they will answer.

So... if she can no longer fulfill her duties as a SC justice, do they remove her?

Can she lay in a hospital bed unable to get up for two years and still remain a justice?

So the question is, can she be forcibly removed for not being able to do her job?
