NY is doing some good stuff, listening to Cuomo now, whom I do not like.

New Rochelle will have priority over new drive-up testing for Corona. 6 lanes, by appointment. Faster, safer for medical staff and anyone that may be in an ER or Dr. office. Vulnerable population also has priority, whether from New Rochelle or Westchester County. By next week they should be able to test 6k per week, this week will be lower and again, appointment is necessary. 888 number.

Temperature differences in each city, for the duration-period of each area's infection ?

Hong Kong varies a bit, but generally enjoys a warmer climate. Singapore, with its total 103 confirmed cases (regarded as a major outbreak) has hovered around the 80-85 degree F mark throughout these last couple of months.

New York itself varies, from what I've seen. One week they can be expriencing snow, and the next they can be 20 degrees hotter.

The UK (with variations from north to south) tends to be uniform. We're now beginning to warm up, but, throughout our own infection period, the temperatures overall have struggled to reach double figures.

The continent of South Africa ... do you have reports of their citizens wearing masks, en masse, to show me ?

Temperature in Harare, Zimbabwe: 81 degrees F

Temperature in Durban, SA: 83 degrees F

Temperature in Lusaka, Zambia: 79 degrees F

Temperature in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: 79 degrees F

How bad are outbreaks in continental Africa ?

Well, Africa, like everywhere else, has tourism. Disease-ridden Chinese, Europeans ... have they crippled Africa with their exports of Covid-19 ?

They ARE worried about its arrival. Even so, numbers remain low, certainly in comparison to China, Asia, or Europe.

    https://news.yahoo.com/coronavirus-c...173941534.html

The continent has benefitted from the fairly slow arrival of the virus to Africa - giving its 54 countries a window to set up testing and treatment capabilities.
Coronavirus tests should be ready "within a couple of weeks" across all African nations, according to the World Health Organization.

Currently 33 of 47 sub-Saharan African countries have testing facilities, up from only two in January (in South Africa and Senegal).

In Nigeria - with two confirmed cases - the Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is publishing daily reports with updates on cases and any ongoing contact tracing. It has a free phone number and WhatsApp number for enquires and advice.

East Africa has no confirmed cases yet, although several people have been put in quarantine as a precaution.

In Kenya, the government has opened a quarantine centre in the capital, Nairobi, for suspected cases.

In Tanzania, the health minister announced that isolation centres in the north, east and west of the country had been identified. Thermometers have been stockpiled and more than 2,000 health workers trained.

Last month, Uganda opted for regulated self-isolation at home for a number of passengers that needed to be quarantined on arrival at Entebbe airport.
They're certainly worried about big outbreaks ... but, they're just not seeing them. [The above report is just one day old, by the way]

Can you show me evidence of widespread mask usage in Africa ?

Democrats: Suspend Immigration Enforcement Rules amid Coronavirus Epidemic

The nation’s huge population of illegal aliens may try to avoid medical treatment for China’s Wuhan virus unless President Donald Trump suspends immigration enforcement rules, say pro-migration Democrats and activists.

“The government needs to come out, and just be out, and say, ‘We’re not going to deport you,’” said Ally Bolour, a Los Angeles immigration lawyer and a member of the board of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. “This is a national health emergency crisis. … If you’re sick, come on in. We’ll take care of you,’” she told the Guardian.

Democrats are also using the epidemic to target the White House’s “public charge” rule. Democrats already oppose the rule because it is designed to exclude legal migrants who cannot provide for their own health care.

“Failure to immediately stay implementation of the Rule so that we can take the steps necessary to contain and mitigate the outbreak of the disease puts the public health and safety of our communities at increased risk,” said a March 6 letter by 15 Democrat attorneys general. The rule denies green cards to migrants who rely on federal health and welfare programs, and so it is “deterring individuals from accessing critical health benefits to which they are legally entitled,” said the letter, which claimed that “DHS’s implementation of the Public Charge Rule during this public health crisis is irresponsible and reckless.”

Democrats are using the epidemic to delegitimize migration rules, says Mark Krikorian, the director of the Center for Immigration Studies, which favors tighter enforcement. “There is a pragmatic way of limiting the public health fallout of the disease, and there there is the Democratic effort to undermine immigration laws, to morally stigmatize them using the virus as an excuse,” he said.

Federal officials should quietly ignore migrants’ illegal status as they try to detect, isolate, and treat all of the Americans who are infected by the epidemic, he said. “The government should make clear that they are not going to be checking legal status when they’re trying to protect public health, and it seems perfectly reasonable to say that use of public benefits [by would-be migrants], in this case, will not be factored into public charge rules.”

That no-checks policy may become painful if there is a shortage of hospital beds for sick Americans, he said. “We’re going to have to have some tough decisions if things get bad,” he said, so the goal should be to slow the disease’s spread so that hospitals can keep pace with the flood of sick Americans and sick illegal migrants, he said.

The government’s failure to enforce immigration laws for many years has created a large population of 10 million to 20 million aliens, who are mixed in the population of roughly 315 million Americans. The resulting flooded labor market keeps many of these illegal or legal aliens — and many Americans — in low-wage careers, in crowded apartments, and in service sector jobs such as restaurants.

“If you continue to discourage people from seeking services under normal circumstances, you cannot expect them necessarily to seek those services just because you as the racist, anti-immigrant president have decided that now it’s a good idea,” Max Hadler, director of health policy at the New York Immigration Coalition, told the Guardian.

Other Democrats are calling for an enforcement rollback amid the virus, even though they have also backed many pro-migration bills.

We have to proliferate the access to testing and services,” Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), whose Latino-dominated district includes many suspected victims. “If someone is undocumented — or has a green card — and they feel that they’re not eligible for any of these kinds of services, that’s just going to worsen the situation, that’s going to prevent us from really addressing the coronavirus issue in an effective way,” he told the the Hill.

“What you want in a public health situation like this is for everybody to feel comfortable coming forward if they need to come forward,” Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) told the Hill.

“And if we have any barriers to that, it’s not that it’s bad for them — it might be bad for them — but it’s also bad for the entire public,” said Jayapal, a former Indian migrant who argues that the nation needs a large inflow of immigrants to perform manual farm labor. Jayapal’s Seattle district has had a rash of coronavirus cases, partly because the district is home to many Chinese visa workers and legal immigrants.

“Healthcare facilities must be immigration enforcement-free zones so that immigration status does not prevent a person from seeking care,” said a statement by several hundred medical professionals. The March 2 statement continued:

The COVID-19 response should not be linked to immigration enforcement in any manner. It will undermine individual and collective health if individuals do not feel safe to utilize care and respond to inquiries from public health officials, for example during contact tracing. Similar enforcement-free zones have been declared during hurricanes and other emergencies, including after the September 11 terrorist attacks. These policies should be clearly and unequivocally articulated to the public by the federal, state, and local governments.

But some pro-migration activists are using the epidemic to argue for looser enforcement, even at the southern border where almost a million poor migrants arrived during 2019. The Hill quoted one activist who suggested that the U.S. should admit roughly 30,000 migrants who are now waiting in Mexico:

Cindy Anderson, a member of Doctors for Camp Closure — an association of medical professionals who oppose immigration detention — decried camp conditions in Matamoros, across the Rio Grande from Brownsville, Texas.

“I was in Matamoros in January and we were seeing a lot of influenza-like illness at that time. And so any kind of virus, it would spread quickly through a camp like that, just because people are in close proximity with one another,” said Anderson. “I think the big concern is if someone developed respiratory distress there that very quickly the resources will be overwhelmed.”

The New York Times editorial board added to the demands on March 5:

Proponents of closed borders and small social safety nets have a tendency to highlight the tension between citizen and noncitizen, to imply or explicitly state that the only way to help one group is to deprive the other. But the truth is, people on both sides are hanging by a thread.

Infectious diseases, especially those like Covid-19, have a knack for penetrating and exposing such false dichotomies.

“Xenophobia” might spread if the administration does not relax enforcement efforts, said the board:

If citizens struggling to cover their own health care nurture resentments against any group perceived to be getting help to which they themselves are not entitled — or worse, if they grow xenophobic and subscribe to the notion that immigrants carry diseases — they might be compelled to endorse policies even more draconian than those already in play. That would create more anxiety among noncitizen communities, which would lead to fewer people seeking medical care when they need it. From there, the epidemic would only get worse.

Pro-migration Democrats, said Krikorian, “want a broader statement that immigration laws are suspended for the duration of what they consider the emergency to be.”

But Americans need a more nuanced policy that preserves enforcement while suppressing the disease among the mixed U.S. and illegal populations. “It needs to be made clear that to get tested, you don’t have to show proof of legal residency, and if you need to be hospitalized, you will be, regardless of legal status,” he said.

Why do Democrats come up with such seemingly ridiculous ideas ?

It's painfully obvious, surely. THEY ARE AMERICA'S ENEMIES.

Who else but an enemy of America would suggest any RELAXATION of immigration, in any way, shape or form, when Covid-19's prevalence is principally from abroad ?

So how does China have like 90,000+ AFTER all of this exploded - and they are now predicting possibly 150 million cases in the USA?

Up to 150 million Americans could get coronavirus: US projection

Washington (AFP) - Between 70 to 150 million people in the United States could eventually be infected with the novel coronavirus, according to a projection shared with Congress, a lawmaker said Thursday.

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib made the remarks during a hearing of the House of Representatives with members of the president's coronavirus task force, confirming earlier reports by US media outlets including Axios and NBC News.

"Congress's attending physician told the Senate that he expects between 70 to 150 million people to eventually contract the coronavirus in the United States," Tlaib said.

Axios had reported that doctor Brian Monahan conveyed the projection to Senate senior staff on Tuesday, telling them they should prepare for the worst and offering advice on how to remain healthy.

The upper end of the projection is about 46 percent of the US population of 327 million people. By comparison German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned this week that up to 70 percent of her country's population could get the virus.

You are welcome to do a longitudinal study of temps in cities you are interested in, I just looked up temps for today. Your point of duration really is about 'seasonal.' NYC is usually broiling in Aug. Cold in January. In either season or month, temps can easily vary 20 degrees or more.

As I looked up and gave links to, not enough is known about the virus to make valid predictions of what it will do in the months ahead, regardless of temperatures.

Hong Kong is literally hours from mainland China, which I'm quite sure you know. The differences in outcomes thus far has to do with the people. Government are the same. The difference is the mindset of the people, Hong Kongers are more self-sufficient.

So by me they have finally went bonkers and over the edge! Considering a few miles from New Rochelle, not really surprising.

Schools closes, libraries closed & now all of the local supermarkets are rationing all kinds of products now.

Near 100,000 infected in China and nearly 4,000 dead.

Now for the USA, they are predicting things to be much much worse. I really don't understand the differences between here and China.

The Worst-Case Estimate for U.S. Coronavirus Deaths

Officials at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and epidemic experts from universities around the world conferred last month about what might happen if the new coronavirus gained a foothold in the United States. How many people might die? How many would be infected and need hospitalization?

One of the agency’s top disease modelers, Matthew Biggerstaff, presented the group on the phone call with four possible scenarios — A, B, C and D — based on characteristics of the virus, including estimates of how transmissible it is and the severity of the illness it can cause. The assumptions, reviewed by The New York Times, were shared with about 50 expert teams to model how the virus could tear through the population — and what might stop it.

The C.D.C.’s scenarios were depicted in terms of percentages of the population. Translated into absolute numbers by independent experts using simple models of how viruses spread, the worst-case figures would be staggering if no actions were taken to slow transmission.

Between 160 million and 214 million people in the U.S. could be infected over the course of the epidemic, according to one projection. That could last months or even over a year, with infections concentrated in shorter periods, staggered across time in different communities, experts said. As many as 200,000 to 1.7 million people could die.

And, the calculations based on the C.D.C.’s scenarios suggested, 2.4 million to 21 million people in the U.S. could require hospitalization, potentially crushing the nation’s medical system, which has only about 925,000 staffed hospital beds. Fewer than a tenth of those are for people who are critically ill.

The assumptions fueling those scenarios are mitigated by the fact that cities, states, businesses and individuals are beginning to take steps to slow transmission, even if some are acting less aggressively than others. The C.D.C.-led effort is developing more sophisticated models showing how interventions might decrease the worst-case numbers, though their projections have not been made public.

Just a 2 minutes drive from me.... "As of Thursday, New York had 328 confirmed coronavirus cases, with 148 of those in Westchester County."

As Kath referenced, in the title....

Coronavirus: Drive-thru testing site opens in New Rochelle, site of major outbreak

NEW ROCHELLE – A drive-thru coronavirus testing facility, which the governor called the first of its kind on the east coast, opened this morning in New Rochelle to start testing people for COVID-19.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Friday that testing at the site, which was being set up at Glen Island Park on the Long Island Sound Shore, will be done by appointment only.

New Rochelle residents — particularly those who have been quarantined — will be tested first, though all Westchester County residents will be eligible to make an appointment.

Special consideration will be given to people from vulnerable populations: the elderly, those with respiratory issues and those with compromised immune systems, Cuomo said.

Appointments can be made by calling 888-364-3065.

"It's prioritized for New Rochelle," Cuomo said. "Open to all Westchester residents, but prioritized for New Rochelle."

The opening of the drive-thru facility comes as the city of New Rochelle continues to deal with one of the country's biggest novel coronavirus clusters.

As of Thursday, New York had 328 confirmed coronavirus cases, with 148 of those in Westchester County.

Cuomo said the drive-thru process is designed to test quickly and limit exposure by preventing potentially positive patients from walking through hospitals and medical facilities.

Those being tested will pull up in one of six lanes, where they will be greeted by medical personnel who will take swabs and send them to BioReference Laboratories for testing.

The drive-thru was opened after the Federal Drug Administration announced it had granted New York permission to authorize 28 private labs to begin testing, a move designed to significantly increase the state's ability to identify positive coronavirus cases.

The state is working with BioReference Laboratories in hopes of running 5,000 more tests per day, in addition to what the state has already been doing. That additional testing capacity will take effect next week.

Hong Kong is literally hours from mainland China, which I'm quite sure you know. The differences in outcomes thus far has to do with the people. Government are the same. The difference is the mindset of the people, Hong Kongers are more self-sufficient.
My point is concerned with how Covid-19 has thrived in the climates where it has reached.

In cold climates .... it finds conditions suited to its proliferation. In warmer climates, it's inhibited. It is temperature that really counts.

My example of continental Africa is one where Covid-19 finds conditions not ideal for it, so it IS inhibited. The wearing of face masks isn't seen in Africa, YET, the inhibition continues.

So .. why doesn't the absence of face masks counter the higher temperatures, and elevate its spread ? Why can't it take advantage of missing face masks ??

Answer: because masks don't make the difference you suppose that they do.

They're talking about the New Rochelle drive thoughs right now on the news, and that the National Guard has been called up to help.

Also hearing on the news right now.... TRUMP TO DECLARE NATIONAL EMERGENCY.

Just turned fox news off. I've had it on pause for quite awhile, it will pause up to almost 30 minutes of TV I believe, and it paused into the show, "Outnumbered," which I think is about the DUMBEST show on fox news. But I've been seeing a lot of that purple haired, leftist clown, election cheat Donna Brazile on there, and now on that Outnumbered joke show, they've peddled out that ratty voiced little ultra leftist bubble head, Jessica Tarlov. Can't stand to listen to her, can't stand to look at her. Watching less and less of fox news these days. About the only one I really like is Tucker Carlson.

This is all way more than what our people are doing.

Our Government accepts that its spread is inevitable. All they are thinking of is how to slow it down, to buy time until warmer conditions inhibit it. They talk of a herd immunity being needed in the population .. which means, since there's no vaccine and no natural immunity, that an immunity needs to form from those infected by it.

Yet ... with our confirmed cases approaching the 800-mark, ready to tip over it by tomorrow ... Trump is exempting the UK from his Europe travel ban ?

Just got back from the store, it's Friday and I'm out of fish, so I had to go stock up. Checked the TP situation in our grocery here and it's back to FULLY STOCKED. Apparently no one in little Podunk, WI is panic hording.

    I like living here.

Interesting that a doctor was on FOX saying that one of the rumors rampant on internet is that relief is coming with summer onset. He said, there's not enough known about how it behaves, it's new. Africa was brought up, his reply was that Northern Africa has quite a few cases and the first have been identified on the Horn.
