Blessed Hope, Rays Of True Light, And Silent Prayer

An ancient man in dark and morbid cloud
no longer full of vigor and foolishly proud
Constant lashing winds, setting heart aghast
as rising black and purple waves cry of the past
Beseeching heavens for signs of relief
from darkness in the marrows, sorrows in the grief
Aching bones that magnify cold chills
fleet footed shadows dance around fresh bloody kills!

Accursed dreams, their vengeance harsh and real
each from darkest dark, into brightest sunlight spills
No clean water to wash away his curse
as both agony and misery becomes worse
Single ray of light breaks through each high noon
from weakened promise, salvation rain may come soon
For decades, that dear hope has stayed alive
within its fleeting happiness, his soul survives!

    R.J. Lindley,

Rhyme, ( Hope's True Arrow, Shot Straight As The Crow Flies )

    Note:
Death has danced forward and its blade sliced in deep
A young and truly innocent soul, fast asleep
Lo! Fate's wicked companion, may next my soul choose
That dying moment, I my composure not lose!
I prepareth, with courage born of stolid, true heart
With faith seeketh, much sweeter realm for my restart
Death is dark darkness and its great destructive waves
Accepting its victory, denying Light that saves!

Dare We Bring Poe, Raven From Darken Grave

Hating blade yet they are so quick to cut
in glee at dark spilled blood, yet lack the guts
walking forth with halo's, prayers said in haste
may find dark verse is neither bad, nor waste.

Remove your anger and pie from your eyes
life may be wishing but truth never dies
Art's true power, is in poets that are free
as birds in a magnificent bright tree.

When verse sings reality in dark tune
no cloud covers sweetness of golden moon
when inked words are strong, so bold and so dark
poet shows life even if sad and stark!

We live, we boldly write, we do not cave
Dare we bring Poe, Raven from darken grave!

A Journey Through Time's Long Blackened Maze

Avoiding many pitfalls, I walked a narrow ledge
a tramp searching for treasures that would heal
empty soul since death had stolen so much
had cast sorrows as ocean waves of grief
as solemn shores of jagged glass
bare feet commanded to walk in midnight pains

Avoiding love as its costs were too, too high
coward, wading desolation through canyons of despair
where black-singing nights, ooze more cuts
as ill-winds surround miseries and dreams
of yesterdays before death's hand gripped
the life of a beloved brother and friend

Avoiding that crossroad, one that can save this soul
renew joys of life, restoring Love, Truth and Heart
forgiving myself, for my yet being alive
forgiving myself, for life and going on
forgiving myself, for not seeking death
forgiving myself, for each sweet breath

Avoiding many pitfalls, I walked a narrow ledge
a tramp searching for treasures that would heal
empty soul since death had stolen so much
had cast sorrows as ocean waves of grief
as solemn shores of jagged glass
bare feet commanded to walk in midnight pains

Pity Her That Has Been So Deceitfully Played

Time was dark, under summer sun
Ill the sad winds that daily blow.
And damn the bad that has begun,
    For in darkness tragedy runs.

No truth comes easy and with haste
Only lies, a true maid denies
For life may wreck, lay love to waste
As sure as sunlight brights the skies.

In life's journey her course was set
    Tho' she, honorable true maid
Evil its own dark fruits begets
Pity her that has been so played.

    Engulfed in that darkened abyss
Her name that was dishonored so
With labored breath, felt its last kiss
As her life, its living let go.

Those with hate saw only the bad
Never her life that was destroyed,
She a true victim of a cad
Her soul cast into in death's void.

Where hid the call for her defense
As her tormentor, his lies told
With lying proof, he gave offense
To kill she, that only truth told.

Compose based upon an account given me by a friend of how her great
grandmother's younger sister had been with such injustice, falsely
accused and her reputation destroyed. Several years later, she drowned
herself- leaving behind a note pleading her innocence of the charge,
that was later found to be the truth. If memory serves me well,
of the time this happened as she told me, this all occured in the
    late 1880's/1890's.
There was a time that a "gentleman's word" in such matters easily destroyed
    that of the accused female.

Dawn And Days That Race Into Eternity

This ancient world splatters sunlight in,
spasms of Nature's hues and immense imaginations,
beguiling people in deepest of staggering blindness,

as mice that smell but see no food,
scamper into orange burning fires set by
    demons on midnight prowls-
    as slumbering giants,
dream of mountains of delight within realms of glory.

dawn and days that race into eternity,
    where leaping flames consume-
    idols of shallow thoughts,
    islands of wishful touch,
    regrets built of white sands,

    where crushing rides decay fantasies,
    and within darker realms,
beasts strain to break golden chains,
for victims that are ghosts in the wailing winds,

as red suns set, and forests beg moon to sing,
songs of valor, tales of love,
and fairies that did not die,

    from beneath hidden cloaks,
white bones sparkle in eager glee

    Note:
In dreams words are cast by high waterfalls
man schemes, for treasures found in golden halls
yet Fate laughs as its long black hand denies
that which mortals most often highly prize....

Hey, Tyr, been working on a regular free form poem as you know I like, since I know squat about how to form a good sentence, let alone a good poem!

Started like a month ago and fell into a mental block of sorts. And funny ironic thing? A large part is about mental blocks and such, and then one sticks me in a rut.
“You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named "Bush", "Dick", and "Colin." Need I say more?” - Chris Rock

Mental blocks are not rare things with writers. Especially so with poets.
Best to store the poem fragment and come back to it days/weeks/months or even years later.
I just recently did that with a poem fragment from 1973, started when I was 19 years old!
And made a very fine poem from that start.. --Tyr

Youth Had Gone, Life Torn Asunder

Youth had gone, life torn asunder
    time blasted, by resounding thunder
yes the shadows wailed, skies moaned
    laughter hard frozen, evil toned
No siren screamed, no lion roared,
mystery boat sank with all aboard
    pothole canyons, nothing phased
    held only soul wickedly crazed.

Fate, thy hands empty and bare
hell's early bus, I had my fare
but traffic jammed on the way
    echoes sounded, as ghosts pray
    Lightning crashed, hope appeared
a reprieve just as I feared
cry went out, hold thy true vow
walk into life, and do it now.

Youth had gone, life torn asunder
    time blasted, by resounding thunder
Cry went out, hold thy true vow
walk into life, and do it now.

Well nobody said it was going to be a damn picnic boy......

the old man looked at the sea and tears fell
life had not been kind, had brought its hell
yet as dawn's lights that distant horizon lit
he said, Yes Lord, give me longer, just a little bit.

Beg I Light, That This Heart And Soul May See

Sorrow have you become my only friend
As your morbid touch decays heart's true fires
Shall your beast - death, grant release in the end
Forbid joyful dreams and that which so inspires
Seal this soul to therein darkness descend
Into abyss, where blackness never tires?
Dare I beg of the sun's bright golden rays
That which as yet prayers have not gained
    Illumination that casts dark away
Bleaching white youthful years that were stained
Relief sparsely given that fails to stay
Setting course that life has now so pained?
Pray tell, shall this life ever blessings yield
Shall I race forth into eternity
Or perish as do flowers in the field
With no more than a glimpse at infinity
Fighting as knight with neither sword or shield
    Die not finding peaceful serenity?

Nay, such failure cannot ever so be
Our souls were created by divine hands
Man did not simply emerge from black seas
Instead was meant to rule these earthen lands
Not by tears, or pitiful begging pleas
Rather with true faith, life's travails withstand!

    Contest Description
Catharsis is the process of releasing strong or pent-up emotions through art. Aristotle coined the term catharsis—which comes from the Greek kathairein meaning "to cleanse or purge"—to describe the release of emotional tension that he believed spectators experienced while watching dramatic tragedy.

Woeful Cries From A Cavern Dark And Deep

Hungry winds, that lash to whip up desire
horrid- state of loss, feeling all alone
forgotten, flames of great funeral pyres
those altars carved from unwilling stone.
Youth's folly, innocence, its childlike mirth
    life wandering through unforgiving sea
lust and greed, far, far greater than earth's girth
fruits thus harvested from a poison tree.

Vanity and its allies- mortal fools
world- a rock-field to be seeded with pain
humanity clawing with its dark tools
    leaving behind destruction, blacken stains.

Red, constant flow of savagely spilt blood
Man in blindness wading through epic floods.

From A Time When Our Sweet World Imploded

I reached for a handful of earth to hold tight
For our love went awry, something just was not right
And in that basket of sad and destructive dark
It damn sure hurt a lot, left its deep scarring mark
But I knew where sweet love was, right where we threw it
And my love, my love we both went blind and blew it
Hell, it was not our time to up and say screw it
So let us meet later tonight and redo it….

I reached for a handful of earth to hold tight
For our love went awry, something was just not right
And in that basket of sad and destructive dark
It damn sure hurt a lot, left its deep scarring mark…

We flew into that storm but we did not choose it
It was paradise why the hell did we lose it
It was our sweet gentle ocean to slow cruise it
There was love and romance, why did we abuse it?
Now our sorrows weep deeply and both hearts sad ache
And this terrible darkness we just cannot shake
Loss we are, for life truly has no damn meaning
Harvest burnt up, ashes are its pallid gleanings.
