Here's another thing about mutations. mutations in viruses (or any creature) can only go so far before the changes harm the creature to the point of it not being able to function.
It's science fiction that natural mutation create NEW and worse features. The only mutations ever seen by human beings are either neutral or a REDUCTION in function or a loss of a feature. That's science fact. (And BTW is one reason why evolution is provably BS scientifically)
If a wolf caught in a trap chews it's leg of and then has 3 legged babies, it's a LOSS of feature not a gain. But there is one less leg for traps.
the wolf doesn't grow wings or iron bones or super tough flesh. Same all the way down with viruses and bacteria. loss of features or neutral changes.
If scientist do see a supposed gain of function like maybe, eyeless fish expressing eyes, it because genes that are ALREADY part of the creature are turned on in an environment.
