Default New Thread, Inspired Pieces That Cry To Be Inked

Out In The Cold Dark-Lit Street Slow Trembling Raindrops

It was past midnight and moon took away its glow
I was dog-drunk, a bit ragged just so you know
Out in the cold dark-lit street slow trembling raindrops
Poor soul, crying and begging aching life to stop
In that raging noise there was rambling and cursing
Was it heart's moaning vengeance I was nursing
Who knew, life was hell and getting no damn better
I read, I read, I read that last goodbye letter
Stained with falling tears, words- I once loved you
Darling, too much fighting -I am gone we are through
Now you go back, be hellraiser you want to be
And I in my great sorrows, pack tonight to flee.

It was past midnight and moon took away its glow
Rain stops, I walked out into spiraling snow
Heart throbbing, a loss I’d never get used to
Those deep knife slashing words, " I am gone we are through"
Then I heard that horn loud honking, tires hard squealing
Her words had done their dark work, car did the killing.

It was past midnight and moon took away its glow
I was dog-drunk, a bit ragged just so you know
Out in the cold dark-lit street slow trembling raindrops
Poor soul, crying and begging aching life to stop.

Car was merely the useful tool.
Fate and the man's life as lived decided. She the beautiful angel Fate and Death both used.
The man lost what was dearest to him (his beloved)because he walked deeper into darkness..

I am now writing the second part of the poem, gives a bit clearer picture-
almost finished -will post that part in just a short bit..-Tyr

Out In The Cold Dark-Lit Street Slow Trembling Raindrops,
    Part Two

And with the poor lost soul's death nobody cared
Evil world laughed, death and punishment shared
I his sympathetic best friend, so much more knew
Fate had shared of his destiny and a clue
That but for he this tragedy wouldst befall you
You may have just one chance to avoid your just due
Telling me one wickedly dark night, how he dies
On a snowy street nobody hears his last cries
Then warning me, do not let your anger you rule
For that and drunkenness is the mark of a fool
Such said from a dark corner in a haunted house
As I in shock became like a frightened mouse!

Dare you ask, why did you not try to your friend save
Instead, path you chose, let him meet an early grave
Plead I, Fate had warned you best not interfere
For if you do that, you both then die, is that clear
I pondered was there a way to deny Fate
But fear overtook, I surmised, 'tis his date
Must delay mine long as I can possible do
This judgement was called to be right, what say you
Should man with arrogance defy another's Fate
Attempt to save him, help keep him from that last gate
Nay, one must be prudent, one must be truly wise
Fate and Death dear friends, they come in many a guise.

Now as years have flown, I watch the street late at night
Battle I plan, I'll not give up without a fight
Fate no longer speaks, unless I hear its dark growl
And death comes closer, I smell its odor most foul…..

    Robert J. Lindley, Part Two-
( Fate and Death must wait- courage and prayer may yet their plans
of my premature demise thus thwart ) a part three-- maybe ????...

I That Expose Heaving Breast To Harrowing Night
(BORN FROM NIGHT BATTLES IN YOUTH FIERCELY FOUGHT)

I that expose heaving breast to harrowing night
Daring to curse fate, defying its awesome might
Live in this world as an old and cold lonesome stone
After midnight face those horrendous beastly moans
Do so despite broken sword and battered shield
Fight in dark realms, void of any flowering fields.

With ancient scarred shield, and heaping acres of hope.
Scribed with Latin words, proclaiming truth to cope.

I that have deep, gashing wounds that refuse to heal
See the busy, blinded crowds wonder how that feels
Thank our God for that respite born from words of praise
Summon angels to sing out to him God did raise
Asking that I may live to see another day.

With ancient scarred shield, and heaping acres of hope.
Scribed with Latin words, proclaiming truth to cope.

Found this poem from back in the 90's while researching past
creations to inspire myself to write today. And I did write today
but then I decided to go ahead and present this oldie. I hope it
may inspire somebody and give courage to endure travails this
dark world may have thrown their way..--RJL

I Looked To Heaven That Christmas Night

What shall I do, cast far away my pen
Should wizen Cheshire cat stop its grin
Mighty Amazon stop its massive flow
I paint my Christmas scene devoid of snow
Nay, surrender poets must never do
Snap out of it, sling a new verse or two!

I once a grieving teen, found hope to write
After the shadow of death took a bite
And father went beyond the purple veil
Life fell into abyss, maddening hell
Years flowed past, a zombie I became
Fight the world, slay it was my morbid game!

Just before Christmas, our daughter was born
I saw life, love , hope- left behind my scorn
An angel, with blonde hair and sweet blue eyes
Gift divinely sent from heavenly skies
That very night, my pen spoke words to me
A treasure was given, now you are free!

Renewed the bond and joy again found
Oath to live, a poet honored bound
Given was again dearest saving light
I looked to Heaven that Christmas night
Nay, surrender poets must never do
Snap out of it, sling a new verse or two!

    Note:
These last few days, a gloom had came
I waded darkness, forgetting my name
In misery, I drank for sorrow's well
Was this world still here, I could not tell
I woke at dawn and saw a shred of light
Heard a stern voice say, rise thee up to fight
Give life a chance, are you not yet alive
Grab a pen and into poetry dive
Christmas is near, just a few days away
With that admonishment, I knelt to pray.

True, Love Can Be A Hard, Hard Road,
(Tribute to Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers )

    Verse 1
She was a beauty I found
Cried how desperately she loved me
    I was then honored bound
To cast my net and see

    [Refrain]
I wanted her more, than she did me
Her game, drown me in her dark sea

    [Chorus]
True, love can be a hard, hard road
    When one-sided, a heavy , heavy load

    [Verse 2]
Such a joy, laughter in her eyes
I was a poor lonely soul
Her power, took me by surprise
Romance can exact a dire toll

    [Refrain]
    I wanted a sweeter romance
She thought love a game of chance

    [Chorus]
True, love can be a hard, hard road
When one-sided, a heavy, heavy load

    [Verse 3]
Midnight came and took her away
To a place I never knew
I knew life would make me pay
    Penalties that were overdue

    [Refrain]
    I wanted a sweeter romance
She thought love a game of chance

    [Chorus]
True, love can be a hard, hard road
When one-sided, a heavy, heavy load

    [Chorus]
True, love can be a hard, hard road
When one-sided, a heavy, heavy load
