Default Lander held on to vaccine maker stock months into tenure

Nothing shady about this Actual science takes a backseat to profiteering.

    By ALEX THOMPSON

Serving as Biden’s top science adviser, Eric Lander, the head of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, publicly promoted Covid-19 vaccination efforts while having a significant financial investment in one of the vaccine makers, according to financial disclosures.
Under the White House’s ethics agreement Lander signed, he had 90 days to divest his stocks after he was confirmed by the Senate on May 28. While Lander shed the bulk of that stock in June — including shares of BioNTech SE, the German biotechnology company and Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine partner — he waited until Aug. 5 to sell the remaining $500,000 to $1 million worth of stock he held in that company. When Lander ultimately sold the stock 69 days after his confirmation, it was the company’s second-highest stock price ever at $404.92 a share, having shot up more than $50 a share from two days prior.

    Said I many times.

Fauci has patent on vaccine before the virus. If you really want to know the depth and breadth of the corruption watch this video.

That's a ridiculous argument. Wreaks of populist rhetoric.

I'm not a market guy. My absence in most stock market discussions hasn't made itself obvious over the years?

Just a guess, but it looks shady. As if he held on as long as he thought he could get away with it before divesting himself of his interest in the market his position gives him unfair control over.

Not saying it's anything new or Earth-shattering. Ethics and US government are mutually exclusive. Ethics violations happen only on the right. The idea it's even a spoken concept is laughable.

Well based on what you quoted he was already invested in Pharma and had 90 days to divest. He was completely out after 69 days after selling the bulk earlier. He complied with the rules. To complain about this issue now just wreaks of populism. He wasn't really in a position of control in terms of influencing stock prices.

    Interesting.

To complain about it at all, apparently, wreaks of throwing shit against the wall to see if it sticks. Not sure where populism comes into it. Has it become popular to behave like Democrats now?

Edit: Still looks shady to me, but I readily admit to a cynical view of Dems and how they manage to get rich off the same capitalism Republicans do.

Because populists are generally wrong (spelling notwithstanding ). And if they're correct it's because they got lucky.

Do you mean those who are complaining? I think yes, in some respects.

The topic "populism" intrigues me. Populism itself, IMO, is better than the alternative. In simple terms, a government controlled by the people is preferential to a government controlled by a group of political insiders and/or wealthy elite.

I would say whether or not a populist idea is good or bad depends on what the populist's concerns are (real or imagined).

I'm not seeing a one size fits all definition.

    I AM seeing this:https://wachouston.org/student-resou...SAAEgKyEfD_BwE

They say it can be right or left wing, then call it anti-American among other labels the left lays on the right.

    Then there's this one:
a political approach that strives to appeal to ordinary people who feel that their concerns are disregarded by established elite groups.
I'm basically getting that anytime the people present the "other side" as the elite they become a dirty word.

But those definitions don't really include anything about a core belief which is my problem with it. Stay tuned.........
