Even just a person trying to be a good citizen, would gather enough truth about what the dem party is now (Socialist) and race away from it..
I've seen nothing from your posts here that suggest you have so informed yourself.
So you give-- and to what party, eh??
Are you willing to fight to defend this nation, our freedoms and our Constitution?
Nothing you post leads me to believe you would fight--a patriot would fight!
That is the definition of the word ...
A patriot will speak out-not fearfully remain silent on the atrocities and deceptions practiced by the Socialist dem party--you do not.

And that, when most often its -he is too damn cowardly and too selfish to fight for what others have died to give him.
Those that speak out as I do-- and others here also- are tagged and listed for future actions, by this Federal monster that -millions still think is our
government (its not-- it almost entirely beholding to the globalists).
The same government that called our returning war veterans - "potential terrorists".
You haven't a damn clue what a true patriot is..

I thanked this not to put anyone else down, but to say I agree that being a good citizen means a hecka lot more than fighting for a candidate or just showing up to vote.

Whomever is president-whether we like them or not, is president. That's the way it works. We don't have to listen to their speeches, we don't have to read about them. Indeed, we can easily pretend they are not there.

Our daily lives, are impacted by the tools in DC, but to a relatively small degree. They are much more impacted by whether or not our communities have good schools, decent roads to get back and forth to work or soccer games. Our kids are impacted by our local parks and if there are activities to keep them active and occupied. Successful communities have all these things and they do not happen by happenstance. There are folks that give their time to work on and/or attend school board, city council, and park district meetings. They volunteer to help when necessary and are often the same people you'll see at food pantries, volunteering at senior activities, and working parades and such.

Strong communities don't have to look to the 'federal government,' heck for little do they even have to look to the state, they are taking care of business right where the community lives.

Why would you assume that anyone who complains about political issues/candidates on the Internet cannot be "doing anything" for their community? As far as I know these two things are not mutually exclusive. In fact, I'd say people who are passionate enough to be up on the issues and have a strong opinion about them is probably more likely to care about other things as well.

I complain here, and I volunteer at our local USO. And I also do Stockings for Soldiers. Russ volunteers to play Taps at veterans funerals, and has served food at a local shelter.

*not pointing fingers, not you SD, just made me think. I think the last one was tailfins.

But over the years on these boards, always funny to see some poke at others about spending too much time, or talking about how we waste time here while action can be done. Ummm... aren't the people making these posts doing the very same thing the rest of us are doing? Yups, I believe so.

Me, I'm the local mayor. And I clean the streets every saturday at 3am. I volunteer at the aspca 2x per week. I feed the homeless on sundays. I help campaign for all of the local candidates, just because it's a good thing to do. Then I sleep for a few hours, and then come here.

I enjoy my time on here and don't consider it wasted. I'm wasn't trying to be full of hubris even though it did come out that way. My complaint is if all anyone does is sit and complain online, then they really aren't doing anything for change. Get out there and offer your time and effort to make a difference. Kudo's for all volunteerism!

I complain online. But I donate from the top down for starters. For the presidency and senate seats I admittedly just donate $ to the candidates I like, when I can. Locally I do similar with the candidates for mayor and such, and support our local police and fire departments with donations often. I'm not a foot soldier though. But I do put money where my fat mouth is.

I have volunteered at various pet places and kennels over the years for short term help and donations. I also support my local church, but not nearly as much as I should.

Yeah, all in all at least I do something, but I could certainly do a LOT more. But who's got the time, I'm too busy here complaining!

Complaining helps me narrow down who I need to donate to.

I didn't mean that to be my point. I was addressing those that do nothing but sit on the Internet and complain and don't participate at all.

Do you consider financial donations more or less important than volunteering?

Of course, but time & effort go a long way too.

I got that and certainly didn't mean just the internet either. Too many seem to think it all 'rests' on whomever is the president. I too have done so, it's not likely that the republic will fall whichever of these two is sworn in come January.

Reality is that a better community starts there, in the community. It comes down to the people getting involved enough to be vested in moving forward and making improvements.

I always felt that starting at the bottom and working up was best direction. The local elections where a few voices can make a difference are where my voice is mostly directed.
