In peacetime only the U.S. Marshall's have greater Law Enforcement
than the USCG has, supporting other agencies and State Governments.

Hard argument. Y'all are military. You're also police. I think you should be under DoD myself. You're doing a Federal job defending our borders. Except the Southern one. The Feds can deploy you to war zones, but won't claim you. Sounds pretty sh*tty to me.

I had to mull this one over a few minutes. So we swear to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies both foreign and domestic ... but posse comitatus overrides that? I don't know anything about the CG's argument nor with who , but that's just stupid. You guard the waters of the US but posse comitatus preempts you from being military? All I can say about that is BULLSHIT. That is one lame ass excuse. So y'all just don't f-ing count? But they can deploy you to a foreign nation to get shot at like the rest of us?

What makes one of us less than the other? And being a jarhead, I KNOW the crap y'all go through. This is unsat. My congressman's getting a letter. Trust THAT.

Oh yeah, We get the same pay & bennies (for the rates) that DOD has. Retirement too.

As for VA, yeppers that too. I'm heading out to West Palm tomorrow for a sonogram on the throat and next month I'm getting work done to the stbd paw. (not to mention the knees, the back and other parts damaged during the job)

It all boils down to federal law and jurisdiction, Gunny.

Posse Comitatus allows far more flexibility to enforce laws and regulations.
Only if Martial Law was declared could any DOD branch step in, the exception
being National Guard at the state level.

DOD is not allowed or mandated to Law Enforcement except in time of
a declared war. The Navy often carries a USCG detachment on board when
patrolling certain seaways. The CG team is allowed to board, search, detain,
and take control of contraband or illegal aliens. The DOD cannot do that.
