In Your Brilliant Light, I Say This Solemn Prayer

O' lord help me fight these dark, troublesome midnight blues
these blacken currents that trouble my grieving heart
I want to be right and walk in a good man's shoes
Truly destroy, break evil completely apart.

O' lord give me support, the courage to fight well
may fight with my all, with my truest, faithful might
Send this wicked scourge back into unholy hell
open the way to bring in truth and Holy light.

O' lord I thank you for the strength to fight this war
may heart give me power to enemy defeat
I ask you my lord, be with me to cross that bar
Destroy this black wickedness, those that steal and cheat.

I pray you my lord, sees my willingness to serve.
I have the truth and in your light, the faithful nerve.

    Robert J. Lindley, sonnet
    Jan 10th, 1972,

New Note; I wrote this for a contest in the newspaper but never sent it in.
I was age 18 and doing a lot of composing back then.

We For A Moment No Longer Contemplate Death

Solitudes, please I beseech thy soft calming breath
In Nature I yearn a cool breeze and quiet hour
We for a moment no longer contemplate death
And beloved Spring dares to gift us a shower.

Let's pray for a calm life, love and leisurely sit
As the green grasses lounge in silent fortitude
That the dark of earth raises not its hand to hit
And we may with Lord's grace see dawn's best attitude.

And a true soft silence that the eager heart begs
For truth, only motion is the breathing of time
And nothing disturbs broken boughs on magic pegs
Or human spirit as it enjoys Nature's clime.

Solitudes, please I beseech thy soft calming breath.
We for a moment no longer contemplate death.

    Robert J. Lindley, Sonnet

Salvation Rests Behind True Faith's Gold Door.

Heart mourning under the cold starry night
O' tis the pain cloaked and frigid cold
And yes, it is far from the ravens' flight
The aching years, before the sun burnt old
Midnight cocks are out jumping and crowing
They walk about as if skating on ice
Yet we living still pray for the knowing
Between evil blackness and being nice
The spinning night sky, stars hang by long threads
They give off unreasonable, gallant light
We soothe our vanities by silken beds
And massage guilt by less than holy sight.

Dare we this, tell our brothers the true score.
Salvation rests behind true faith's gold door.

    Robert J. Lindley, Sonnet
    Nov. 1 1973

Note: This poem was composed from a very vivid dream that I had last night.

When The Old Poet Slept Great Dreams Entered To Astound

Bluebird flying with fierce anger against golden red sun
Red flames burning themselves out in a dying ancient oak tree
We watch with amazement as green grass turns a pale yellow
The clenched eye sees love waiting for its treasured gold
Golden fields of low whispering wheat inch an earthworm fleeing
Evil wakes to hear mockingbird sing its beautiful song
In the mesmerizing distance the purple mountain stares
Down below old man river swishing with its curves and banks
Farther east, coast sings a very pretty little melody
The blacken and restless world presents its first chromatic yawn
As two white doves rest under a large old mulberry tree
Within the shadows youth stares at ungodly beasts emerging
Fear rears its insidious and vastly dangerous red head
And hope walks ten thousand miles to meet its vilest enemy
Questions await eternity, will war see victory darkness
Or light from God's Heaven defeat its arch enemy again
The old poet woke, at his feet lay blank paper and pen
Dare he compose truth to insane vagaries of bought out men?

When Dearest Love Comes Cupid Did Not Miss

    Knowledge demanded much more
    Did not intuition tell
Life was it, a larger score
The other, a trip to hell.

    Did not memory remind
Kind was on the honor list
His heart also was not blind
But his anger drew a fist.

    But memory gave advice
Hope tells us to be so kind
I love her, he said it thrice
At nineteen he knew his mind.

She had yet to say a word
Her heart loved his wild ways
He sang like a morning bird
    His railroad job truly pays.

    Waiting, waiting, would he ask
Her hand she wanted to give
Was her honey up to task
For marriage and both to live.

July morn came with its heat
He came to breakfast that morn
He was handsome and so neat
Not like others she so scorns.

    Asked her to step outside
And her nerves were so frayed
Her jitters she could not hide
But for those words she prayed.

First, he said to her let me
Say your beauty does so shine
Our lives I want it to be
I am yours and you are mine.

Week later they were thus wed
    To live happy together
    All the town-folks truly said
    They win despite this weather.

Than The Grand Illusions Of Those Paradise Shores

I that dares the purple sunlight to ease my soul
splinter and enter this old, discontented heart
all the mistakes, little sins that takes heavy toll
worrisome the most was the quite unsteady start
the shy lad that saw the great frosting on the pane
the midnight calls and the mornings promised truth
the eerie screams, wondering am I really sane
ah but, so goes the hard mysteries of wild youth
did great Achilles disapprove of how he died
the unusual poison sent into his heel
was true that some Greek warriors actually cried
and the gods laid on his fleshly grave a gold seal

O' truth does thy great powers always give us more.
Than the grand illusions of those paradise shores?

    Robert J. Lindley - Sonnet
    composed on my 21st birthday
    March 5th, 1975

Note- I had completely forgotten this poem other
than a very vague memory that I wrote one back then.

The Untruth Of A Lone And Erroneous Prophecy

What has a prophetic death done to this poor soul
the merest thought of sleeping under freshen sod
stir the urgent flames, hefting in more Irish coal
is it true Fate will soon strike me with angry rod?
Shall the sky its higher heavens thus so soon part
or maybe earth will hear, spit open a new grave
My dearest angel, fear not, still thy fearful heart
Faith and Truth will issue edits to my heart save!
Hold certainty, my life is to ever flow on
And honey-cast dawn wake to me love ever-more
Yes, you shall sing in your sweeter romantic tone
As we in our bliss dine on paradise's gold shores.

There is no dark that can easily take my life.
Fate cries out, you will be my ever-faithful wife.

    Robert J. Lindley, dark sonnet
    Jul 1 27th, 1977

At 76, it's a wonder I'm still around to bug so many, so often.
2 Heart attacks, 2 times EMT's brought me back in an ambulance,
Cancer-10 years and counting clear. 2 times while in uniform.
A navy corpsman saved my life during what had been a Fire Drill.
1 while on the ship's whaleboat...during a Man overboard Drill at sea.
While they were bringing us back aboard the ship in the boat...
The forward cable snapped, and dumped us (5 of us) into the Mediteranian.
Also...during the 70's, as a Firefighter. Fell backward on to a roof next to fire building.
Pulled two muscles around my left knee.
NEXT STOP....Told my wife. Just make sure I have socks on. I hate Cold Feet.
I may be older than most. I may say things not everybody will like.
But despite all of that. I will never lower myself to the level of Liars, Haters, Cheats, and Hypocrites.

My good friend, God keeps you around for a reason. Your long military career gave you knowledge we do not have!
And you impart your wisdom because you have faith, God bless.

Hold Firm Your Immovable Sacred Heart

Your sword that badly broken thrown away
night winds blowing another world apart
seven nuns, heads bowed slightly to pray
but what of my loving heart that gave your start
has this terrible world defeated us
did the black river decide to flow west
pure gold or did the dying man just cus
as those spitting words cursed you the best.

Hold firm your immovable sacred heart
that pierces very deep my troubled soul
in the Heavens, across Poseidon's chart
red roses strewn celebrating your goal.

Your sword that badly broken thrown away.
Seven nuns, heads bowed slightly to pray.

Yes, While Evil Spreads Its Long Greedy Hands

In this world wherein poets dare to live
A crazy place where evil flourishes
O' but tis it not true rich barely give
Honey and manna that so nourishes
Yet the greedy ones take all they can get
They screaming loud we must have more and more
You poor go to the back, shut up and sit
We are busy stealing our biggest score
    Poet sees this and elaborates
    About wickedness, unsatisfied greed
With poetic words what pure truth so states
Of the plight of the hungry so in need.

Yes, while evil spreads its long greedy hands.
Downtrodden organize to take their stand.

You Wake Up To Find Out Black And White Are The Same

He said, yes, fear Fate when curves destroy the straight line
When the circle turns into a huge blacken square
And malignant rocks are the food on which you dine
And your saddest night's memories are what you share
Life spins out its tangles to catch cowardly fools
And dawn dances on the sweet memories you hold
Your build your comfort house on sand, with rusty tools
Loss catches you because on folly you are sold
Rumor and lies fly in to create a false truth
Your few friends believe you to be stark raving mad
You try and try to salvage your sad failing youth
Nobody believes your because tall tales are bad.

Life seems to be wrong and a most vicious game.
You wake up to find out black and white are the same.

Dawn's Calyx Woke Her And She Saw Pink Explosions

Dawn's calyx woke her and she saw pink explosions
As if hot flaming rays across the window sill
She woke me, I was brainstorming some implosions
Laughed together, love was in the pinkest pill
But day cried out, I am now tantalizing you
Your hearts are combining but my golden rays shift
Radiant glazes that give you more than your due
I work with love, in tandem we paint in to uplift
At the beach morning sun again touched our souls
As the ocean's strong waves washed our lazy feet
We marveled, life astoundingly joined our goals
And it must have been Heaven's lovely will we meet.

That day, in the afternoon we vowed to wed.
That glorious night, we slept in a silken bed.
