Back then, I do not know what limitations were placed on an MLB (Motor Life Boat) as far
as response goes. I know what they are these days.

That crew had balls of bronze, not brass!

Gold Lifesaving Medal is a rare honor, and all 4 got it.
Too bad a Medal of Honor cannot be given for domestic actions.
That crew would certainly have deserved it.

Yeah well that's BS. I never liked the way the Coast Guard treated. They were part of the DOT until sometime in the 90s. Y'all are the red-headed stepchildren of the military same as we are the Navy. They deserved more than medals for THAT crap.

Back in the 50's we were under the Treasury Department!
In 1967 put under the Department of Transportation:
    http://www.uscg.mil/top/missions/
In 2003, combined with many others under the umbrella
of Home Land Security. We were supposed to be the solid
    linch pen of that Department.

Best for us to keep our bags packed!

I got to spread it around some. I'm cracking up. I was the stepchild of the Navy for 21 years. I hear ya.

Be my guest and share all you want. I really think we are
    grossly under-appreciated.

We will NEVER go under DOD unless there is a declared war.
In peacetime only the U.S. Marshall's have greater Law Enforcement
than the USCG has, supporting other agencies and State Governments.

Hard argument. Y'all are military. You're also police. I think you should be under DoD myself. You're doing a Federal job defending our borders. Except the Southern one. The Feds can deploy you to war zones, but won't claim you. Sounds pretty sh*tty to me.

DOD can't happen, posse comitatus prevents it
Every day I beat my previous record of consecutive days I've stayed alive.
