"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. It depends on what's available and how important an exact measurement is. If you are gauging the change in the height of tides, the picnic table would be sufficient to let you know within a foot how much the tide has risen.
