    Default Fields or Wilson?

    @jimnyc

Seems to me Wilson was 5-1 until Smith wouldn't let him audible at the line of scrimmage. Then they went 0-5. I could understand if they still had the Bus and their old offensive line. Then there's the fact Smith let the defense take the heat for those losses. Defenses are only so good if the offense can't keep them off the field. That's aside from major players being dinged up. Probably from being on the field all game

I say get Wilson another good receiver or two and call Smith off. Bet that's what they don't do.

While Fields won some games, it seemed the team won despite his bland performances. And while a W is a W, you have to ask whether or not the player is the answer, the person that will lead them to a championship. I don't see that in Fields, yet anyway. Wilson can win the championship but they need a much better supporting cast if so. Like an A+ running game and lights out defense. They have been too sporadic running and I blame the line. Their D is also need another man up front to plug the run and also another CB. Unfortunately, I see more problems than just at QB. Even before their losing streak to end the season, they never felt like they were a team that was gonna get very far in the playoffs this year.

For sure there are more problems than Just QB. The news moving faster than this thread, it appears from the media at least they're going to let Wilson go. The media sure has created a bunch of drama around it. And every "expert" and his dog.

The way I see it, if they are going to build a team around a QB, I'm going for the proven winner. I could be wrong, which would make you wrong too , but I'm not seeing Fields as the guy. Some depth on defense and at WR would be my primary concern. Wilson had exactly one threatening WR, and a defense backfield that got dinged up and pretty much quit. But it's asking a lot of a 34 years old veteran with one, infantile moody WR to carry the team.

The Arthur Smith/Russell Wilson thing has turned into a soap in the media. The naysayers claim Wilson is just selling his stock, but I find it kind of odd that he comes off a career performance and 6 wins and suddenly can't function without someone changing shit.

I hate the seahawks and therefore i hate Wilson. I don't want him to succeed anywhere so I'll go with fields for this conversation.

Got to get with times of free agency. I don't like the Seahawks either. Expansion team. I don't like any expansion team after the 1960s. Besides the fact that the Seagulls have arguably the ugliest logo and uniforms in the league with their 70s expansion buddies the Buccaneers right there with them.

However, I've been a Steelers fan since the first NFL game I watched in 1970 and Bradshaw was a rookie and had hair. And I have the football cards to prove it (can ask Jimbob) So if it works for the Steeler's ... (btw, I hate free agency too)

The way I see it is this: Sign Fields to a long-term competitive contract and hope he pans out. Re-sign Wilson for cheap to a limited-year contract and if he doesn't pan out, it's a much easier pill to swallow than a multi-year albatross.

Wilson would have to take the low ball, but he claims he likes Pittsburgh so much, prove it or walk. I'd actually try to re-sign both to a one-year deal again first.

I'm pretty sure nobody else in Rooney Land is thinking that way, but no way am I selling the farm on either QB. Just my opinion Wilson is the best chance for "now" success.

Justin Fields signed by the Jets.

And ugghh, I hope they're wrong, but there are rumors of Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers being a good fit. I think he's about too old now and his head went off the reservation.

On the good side, the Steelers signed WR DK Metcalf from the Seahawks & DB Darius Slay from the Eagles.

Maybe the Jets experience put some humility in him and he'll work out for the Steelers on the rebound.

I see signing Aaron Rogers as a step down from resigning Wilson. Wilson is the better of the two. Rogers is done. I hear they're looking at D'Arnold.

Last thing they need is to bench/trade Wilson and put Rodgers in his place, IMO.

Just as dumb as the Jets dumping Rodgers and then thinking that Justin Fields will bring them to the promised land. Serviceable, yes, but not much more that I saw.

And that's going to be the key for the Steelers now. They have a good team and are picking up many pieces over the past 2 years. Problem is the QB position and that's arguably the most important. And I really don't see an answer this year unless they were to trade up into the top 10 or 5 to get a rookie.

Darnold signing with the Seahawks. A lot of QB hopping around. I really didn't see anyone they talked of that I really wanted. Maybe Kirk Cousins at the time but even he is getting old.

They (news) claiming that Rodgers may sign with the Steelers today. Rams and Giants on outside looking in though. I REALLY hope one of them sneaks in and takes him. I don't want a 41 year old QB.

And they are also stating he is looking for like a 2 year $90 million deal. I pray the Steelers don't fall for that load of BS at his age.

    I'd rather stay with Wilson.

Not just 41 but 41 and weird. His backstage antics last year are not endearing at all. I think he threw everyone but himself under the bus in the media at one point or another. He's less mobile that Wilson.

They should go after Dallas's backup if he hasn't resigned yet. I haven't seen where he has but that idiot Jones is infamous for dragging shit out and costing himself more money. He's a good QB when he's got a good team.

No backups or FA's left impress me the slightest bit more than Wilson. I would rather just keep him then if what's left is the case. Always the possibility of them getting mid-draft or trading up for someone like Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss.

They're looking at bringing back Rudolph.

On the other hand, why would they sign a top tier WR to play opposite Pickens, and a RB who is more of a utility back than 3 down ground pounder if they weren't looking for a thrower? That would also mean Arthur Smith would have to adjust from his 3 runs and punt mentality.

I still say Wilson is better than Rodgers. Rodgers is locker room/media poison. He can't keep his mouth shut and he's never to blame. It's always "I coulda played better, BUT ...." followed by blaming someone else.
