    Default Congressmen wears IDF uniform

Seems like I asked this before But I can't remember (or find the post)

What do military folks think of this.

    Former U.S. military.
volunteered for IDF, (as a civilian?).
Now a congressmen, shows up to capitol hill to vote wearing his IDF uniform.

    2023

"Congressmen Brian Mast wore his military uniform from his service in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at Capitol Hill on Friday (13 October) to show his support for the country following Hamas’s surprise attack last weekend.

Later, the Florida congressman wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter: “As the only member to serve with both the United States Army and the Israel Defense Forces, I will always stand with Israel.”

Mr Mast’s reaction comes as the US House of Representatives remains paralysed after Steve Scalise dropped out of the Speaker race.

The House Majority Leader was unable to get enough support from his conference for a floor vote, despite securing the party’s nomination in a 113-99 vote on Tuesday."

It is proper to take alarm at the first experiment on our liberties. The freeman of America did not wait till usurped power had strengthened itself by exercise, and entangled the question in precedents. James Madison

I can give you the answer. Wearing of the US military uniform at civil functions must be appropriate to the occasion. An example is showing up at a civilian funeral in uniform. It isn't that you cannot. It is not prohibited. But it is considered inappropriate to the occasion.

As a member of the US Congress, in my professional opinion, the wearing of an IDF uniform by a member representing the people of the US is inappropriate. It doesn't belong there, no matter how much one sides with Israel.

If, time stands still and the government has enough cash on hand to coax me into showing up before Congress for whatever reason, I would wear a suit and tie, not my uniform. Conversely, if I was invited to the Marine Corps Ball, I would wear dress blues.
