1. My esteemed friend, I am an overseas Chinese, meaning that I was born outside China and is not a citizen of China.
With regard to that fellow who likened China's rulers to Hitler, he was exaggerating and speaking with his head in the clouds. It was quite surprising that the fellow, a descendant of a Chinese immigrant who made good in the Philippines, could launch the fiercest verbal attack on the land of his ancestors.
Talking about your so-called "repressive regime", you have to go to North Korea to see the real one for yourself. Down there, you will see the true meaning of a "repressive regime". In that country, nobody is allowed to travel beyond the borders without the government's permission, and there is absolutely no freedom.
Now Chinese nationals are allowed to travel anywhere they like, so much so they often become a prime target for muggers, pickpockets and kidnappers in the countries they travel, particularly Africa, the Middle East and the Philippines.
All countries, including America (the champion of liberty) and Japan (China's bitter enemy), are doing their best to attract Chinese tourists. Now even France, which gave America the Statue of Liberty, invites police from your so-called "repressive regime" to patrol the streets of Paris. Perhaps there will come a time when Uncle Sam will also invite police from your so-called "repressive regime" to patrol the streets of Washington!
2. "TOKYO — The Ugly Americans terrorized Europeans and Asians with their booming voices and tennis shoes in the years after World War II. Decades later, Japanese tour groups descended from their air-conditioned buses to flash peace signs as they shot photos of every known landmark as well as laundry on backyard clotheslines.
Now it is China’s turn to face the brunt of complaints. The grievances are familiar — they gawk, they shove, they eschew local cuisine, and last year, 83 million mainland Chinese spent $102 billion abroad — overtaking Americans and Germans — making them the world’s biggest tourism spenders, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization."
