Turkey's location has strategic importance .. it has had, certainly ever since the days of the Cuban missile crisis, back in '62, I believe. Other than that, I can't think of any good reason for Turkey being in NATO.

This doesn't change the fact that they are, and so have every right to expect what comes with such membership. I'd have thought this includes support for the obvious principle that NATO airspace must NOT be violated by a rival power !

Anyone caring to argue otherwise, might care to supply a list of 'second class' territories who are somehow not deserving of the rights which membership of NATO confers.
Turkey is part of NATO in its own self-interest. They have been since the beginning of the Cold War. It was also in OUR interest to have listening posts right next door to Russia. It is strategically important because it bridges Asia and Europe.
