I wonder if Reid and others thought similarly in the past 8 years? And I agree to an extent, anytime they go outside the norms, it coud backfire in the future. But when it comes to something like this, a lifetime position on the SC, where the Dems possibly may not have a chance for many years to come - it's worth the chance.
